Cat11.4 worked perfectly on HD5770. On HD6950 hard locks PC 15-20 mins into BF:BC2

I've been running a Sapphire HD5770 since around the time they launched. I started running 11.4 a couple weeks ago with not a single problem playing any games (CoD Black Ops, BF:Bad Company 2, others).

Two days ago, I upgraded to a Sapphire HD 6950 2GB, after a proper uninstall/reinstall of the 11.4 drivers. Now the GPU driver hardlocks my PC with the sound stuck stuttering within 15-20 minutes of gaming.

Card is completely stock (no overclocking, no attempts to mess with BIOS), system has been completely stable, never locked up on me before.

System specs are:
Antec Mini P180 | EVGA E652 P55 Micro SLI | i5-750 / AC Freezer7Pro | 8GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 2T @1.65v | Sapphire Radeon HD6950 2GB | Corsair 650HX | Win7x64 Pro | Dell U2211H & Sony KDL32XBR9 | 120GB Intel X25M-G2 SSD and 2TB WD20EARS | Win7x64

GPU temps all seem within normal ranges: Max temps were 70-72C per GPU-Z. In fact, here are the last few rows of the log file before it last locked up a short while ago while playing BF:BC2:

Please let me know if you can identify any problems, or if this is a known bug that will be fixed in 11.5 or a hotfix. (I was able to find several threads on other hardware forums noting lockups with 11.4 and 6900 series cards in Bad Company 2 similar to what I am experiencing but no known fix).

CPU/mobo temps are in the 40s-50s Celcius under load, idles in the mid to high 30s, which is the same range they were in with the HD5770. Voltages are stable. Everything appears to be just fine except trying to play BF:BC2 for more than ~15-30 minutes.

Going to try 11.3 and then 11.2 if no other suggestions.

Thanks.

Sounds like they still haven't resolved the Punkbuster issue with BFBC2.

OP, do you use ANY monitoring programs running in the background? This would include MSI Afterburner and/or GPUZ to monitor video card temps... ?

I made a thread about this over a month and half ago when people suddenly started having hard lockups for no reason after the last PB update. It happens with NV cards too but primarily with 6900 series cards.

I had to stop using MSI Afterburner and make sure it doesn't start at bootup to ensure I don't have any crashes in game. That means I can only use the CCC for overclocking (to a max of 840/1325 core/mem) and manual fan control until they fix this bug.

Yep, I had GPU-Z running, and I just tried playing without it running and was able to play successfully for a couple hours. That may have been it! :)

Try this. Go to Device Manager and locate the video card under display adapters. Double click it and goto the Driver tab, you will see the update driver button. Update the driver manually by specifying the exact path of the installation file that you used before. If it allows you to select which adapter to install there is a conflict within your PC, then choose the one with the oldest driver. If this wasn't the problem, then the system will see something like "Cannot find a better match" or something like that.

damn PB still has this issue?

Bumping this thread. Yes, unfortunately it appears they haven't fixed this yet. Hard to believe.

Here's one workaround I've seen posted recently (4/27/11)...

http://www.gotgames.com.au/forums/support-171/guide-bc2-punkbuster-pb-afterburner-ab-trixx-100256/

but it still won't let you exceed the overclock limits of CCC if you can't use unofficial overclocking in MSI AB with this fix. So what's the point just to have a custom fan profile?

Punkbuster...get your sh*t together!!!

Try 11.3...I just had to go back to those from 11.5 because I was getting BSODs with my cards.
