dude if the vet dont take it, id be surprised. If it smells, thats a bad sign. Get it checked out NOW. Every hour counts! THe worse the infection, the more painful it will be for kitty.

Wow... there are about 4 dozen vets within 20 miles of me, and at least 1 hospital. How small is that town in alberta??

I live in a big town (350,000 ppl) and you can't just get in whenever you want even though there are like 20 vet clinics or more.. you always have to book and it's usually next day or later in the day, earliest.

So if you had a bad cut yourself and possibly had gangrene and you went to the hospital and they said "oh you have to wait until 4:45", you would just wait? How is your cat anydifferent?(unless you dont care about your cat at all). Grow some balls, goto the vet and tell them to look at your cat.

Well that's true of most vets here, though not all, if it's not an emergency. But I've seen lots of cases of people with emergencies being treated at my vet alone. Also when I said hospital I meant ER type hospital specifically designed for these scenarios.

Every town in the US that I know of has at least one pet emergency clinic.

I guess this hasn't caught on in Canada. I don't know why, though. It must be very profitable if so many have popped up in the US.

For future reference I would hit up 411 (or whatever information is in Canada) and find out where the nearest emergency vet clinic is....in fact, anybody who owns pets and doesn't know where one is should do this.

In a town of 350,000 I would be absolutely astonished if there were no emergency vet clinics.

Clean the wound then (if it smells bad) off to the vet.

Cats abscess & don't have much ability to fight off surface wounds. If the wound abscess it will cost a *lot* more to fix....

Update? :(

I'm not sure that you realize the severity of a deeply infected wound. Cleaning it and applying the polysporin is probably helping a lot, but infections like that can progress VERY quickly....

so i took it to the vet. i wait an hour. i wait 15mins while the vet dicks around and talks to her friends who've shown up (shes 40ish) and she FINALLY comes in and takes one look at the wound and says 'meh, its minor, wash it with some hydrogen peroxide and then use polysporon' and im like 'ok can you show me how' and she dumps it on the wrong foot. i was like 'uh...can we do it ont he right foot' and shes like 'we did' and leaves. she was behind so she didnt give a sh!t she just wanted to go home

...

im really pissed off. guess ill do what she said for a couple days and see if it improves

Whoa, that vet does suck.

I've helped clean out many a wound (abcesses are always such fragrant fun) and your vet should have done a much more thorough job.

Sounds like your vet is smoking catnip to keep her anti-social and animal hating tendencies at bay. Sounds like she failed out of human medical school and somehow compensated by going to animal medical school.

Find a new vet.

I would've RAISED HELL.

There's no way in fsck that a wound that physically stinks is minor. You should've shoved her fscking nose in it.

Fsck.
