Cat with a broken leg.

I have a cat that has a broken rear leg. My vet put a splint on it almost three weeks ago. I am due to have it removed from her this Monday. The bone was a clean break completely through the bone. Do cats usually heal this fast? I am just afraid my vet is going to take the splint off and my cat is going to rebreak the bone. I don't doubt my vet but I just have trouble imagining that cats could heal from a complete break in 3 weeks. He actually said that if my cat had a lot of trouble with the splint I could probably have it taken off in 2.5 weeks.

Anyone with experiences with cats and broken bones?

no experience, but i would think broken bones would be one of the easier treatments for vets.

i do know that cats heal fast. one of our cats had a ruptured butt gland that needed like 56 stiches. He was healed in 10 days.

Hey, just because it healed fast doesn't mean you can feel free to "abuse" your cat any time you like. Sicko.:|;)

Yeah they are easy when the cat doesn't freak over having something on its leg. My cat removed the first splint that was put on. Only took 8 hours to do so. It took her 2 weeks to learn how to walk with it. I have been wiping and cleaning up poop and pee for 2 weeks now. Thank god she finally decided to learn to walk so I don't have to go through any more of that.

well, when I broke my arm it was in a cast in 6 weeks, but I think I could have taken it off after 4 and been OK, as long as I went easy on the arm. There's a lot bone to heal in my arm than there is in your cat's leg, too.

The cat should be fine. I have a cat that broke her rear leg and got the cast off in about the same time frame.

Word of caution: If the vet taped the leg under that cast, you don't want to be anywhere near that cat when they start peeling the tape off.....where the hair under the tape has been re-growing. :Q

Have them take it in the back and do it.
