Why are we only allowed to like one or the other? Why not both?

Can we all get along?

They don't all have to be in your house, you know. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like owning a ferret for pretty much the same reasons, but I'm not going to tell someone they suck just because they're happy with their ferret. Actually, I'm a little surprised that our resident libertarian hippie anarchist holds such a narrow view on anything.

People are free to do as they choose. They can have a filthy stinking beast in their house if they like, but depending on the dog, I may not visit. Being an anarcho-libertarian doesn't mean I have to tolerate everything in my personal sphere. I only have to acknowledge it. and adjust my life accordingly.

I'm fond of pretty much all animals as long as they aren't trying to eat me alive. I can tolerate them way more than most humans.

I like other peoples dogs fine, but for a pet I want something that doesn't require a shovel for its poop.

Getting both does not work.

I like dogs, too but they are not exactly the type of animal IO would keep indoors. Cats are much cleaner.

Get a cat and you will get a lazy mouse chaser that only makes expenses. Get a dog and you will get a friend who will risk it all so that you can be happy and safe.

I have 3 cats, 1 dog. I've had 5 cats over the last 4 years. I like both, for different reasons. Cats I like because they are low maintenance. I feed them, scoop their shits, and pet them every now and then. I can leave for a weekend and not worry about them too much. However, they scratch the sh1t out of my furniture and run around making noise at ridiculous hours of the night.

Dogs on the other hand, are interactive and thoughtful. They always want to be near you and lick you; they make you feel needed. But, because they require all that attention, they are a huge commitment, and sometimes burden. I hate the fact I can never be away from the house for more than like 10 hours, unless I take my dog with me, which I can't always do.

Either way, I love all my pets.

We have one of each. They are best buds. The cat chases the dog and the dog chases the cat around the house.

I have two cats; they both suck. I have two dogs; they're awesome. I have two rabbits; they're non-entities. I have three kids; they cause more problems than all the animals put together.

i like both, but cats fit my lifestyle. we both work a ton of hours and having a dog would be a huge pain, not to mention it would be unfair to the dog for us being out of the house all the time.

plus our cats are awesome, and don't scratch anything they aren't supposed to. they did rip open a bag of treats and ate them all in the middle of the night though. jerks!

Dog: Follows you everywhere, does things for you, feels attached to your hip and is very emotional in terms of body language/etc

Cat: Does what it wants 9/10 times, allows you to pet them 1/10 times. Has emotions but hardly ever shows them. Crazy annoying at night and lazy during the day.

Overall my pick is large sized dog.

Cats are assholes. They just piss and shit all over the house then act like they're lord muck and you're just there to serve them.

Dogs think you're awesome, and one of the few living things that has a complete understanding of the human male. The dog is always there when you need him, shares your emotions, is always down to party it up. It's like the perfect friend. Plus he has the common decency to do his business outside, instead of the cat, who makes you clean up his stinky litter box with that little shovel.

Don't go with small dog though, unless it's a schnauzer. Those little guys rock. Also make sure to train them. Dogs shouldn't bark excessively or act up if they're properly trained.

Why not both?
