One of our cats got out saturday night and still hasn't come back. He's gotten out a couple times before, but usually comes back the next day or 2 days at the most. This is now 4 nights now and no sign of him. We put cat food out for him which we noticed he came and ate the first couple days, but none of it has been eaten the last 2 days. It's pretty cold here currently, its been down in the 20s the last couple nights. He's 5 years old, always been an indoor cat, still has his claws.

Think he'll ever return? Since its 20 degrees out, is he going to freeze to death or can cats withstand those temperatures?

My dad has a cat that goes out "hunting" even in sub-zero weather. I'm sure he'll be fine and come back when he's ready. :)

Sorry to bear bad news but your situation is catastrophic.

I lost my cat once . . . she was last seen in a catatonic state on my catamaran sailing to Catalina . . .

Sometimes when they get out, other people feed them, and they hang out near that food source.

Maybe it saw you killing kittens and FREAKED out!!!

Sorry about the cat, but I have had cats disappear for days at a time and eventually they come home.

Actually, that pic of the dead cat does resemble mine - white and orange. He's been neutered so I don't think he ran off with some choice feline. Still no sign of him this morning. There's snow on the ground and no sign of kitty prints in the snow anywhere. I wouldn't really be worried except for the fact that its freezing outside.

A friend of mine once lost her cat for 2 years...yup TWO YEARS! I mean, she had pretty much forgotten all about him until one day he showed up meowing at the door, a little skinnier, but with his collar still on! :Q

Yup, it's from the episode where George accidentally gets the busboy fired at a restaurant and then they go to his apartment to apologize and they leave the door open so the busboy's cat runs away too.

I don't think he'll freeze, he'll probably find some secluded place and curl up when it gets too cold. Or at least that's what my gf told me, her family has 5 cats and they've been out in the cold before. Mine ran away in Dec while it was snowing too, found her 3 weeks later at the animal shelter after someone 5blocks away from me turned her in.

the very next day
the cat came back
thought it was a gonner
but the cat came back
it just wouldnt stay away....

anyone ever seen that cartoon? its fairly old, and canadian i think?

good luck with your cat. im sure he will return. think about it, if hes an inside cat, theres probably lots of cool stuff for him to discover on his trek, so hes taking his time.

My girlfriends cat used to leave on a "fur"-long up to a week at a time a couple of times a year. As long as it's got its claws it'll be fine on its own.

yeah thats it. the guy kept trying to get rid of the cat, but it kept coming back. i think in the end he blows up his house or something, and he floats up to heaven along with the cats 9 lives. ima try to find it on the net somewhere.

this is why i'm not a big fan of indoor cats. they get outside once, and they have no clue what to do. they need some experience outside.

he should be fine in the 20 degree weather. he'll find someplace warm to curl up. 20 degrees isn't too bad for a cat.

He's alive! My wife spotted him yesterday in front of the house when she was pulling into the driveway. But he ran off instead of coming in the house. I guess he's enjoying his newfound freedom.
