Cat Pain...

So, last night we heard massive cat screams and we knew my cat was left outside. But this wasn't much concern...its happened before, and he came inside fine...

But a few hours later after he came in, I went to pick him up like usual and he started SCREAMING and growling, he's never done that to me before...so I'm like woah...I guess he's just pissed from the fight.

We didn't see much of him till now, and now he's crying, walking VERY slowly around, unable to lay down...crying....

I threw my blanket on the floor and centralized his water, food, and litter box in a small area so he doesn't have to walk much. All I've been able to surmise is his back right leg appears to be quite swollen, perhaps broken, but he can move it, just with intense pain.

What can I do? A friend of mine suggested I give him a tiny amount of pain killer, but I'm not so sure about that...

The Vet is closed for about 12 hours...

He probably has an infection in the leg from cat bites. Was he in a fight with another cat? Cat mouths are full of all sorts of unseemly bacteria, and their teeth act like little syringes when they bite.

No he seldom fights. Maybe...4-5 times in the last 3 years? He usually goes outside a couple hours a day. He has his latest shots.

I see no cuts, but he is not thrilled to let me get anywhere near his legs. It only makes him want to run away, and I don't want to encourage him to run around.

call the vet back a few thousand times until they answer. I had to call the one here a few times before they picked up when my son's hampster was sick.

Could be a urinary tract infection, then.

neither did I.

The hampster is over 2 years old, which is very old for a hampster. She gets dehydrated very easily apparently. I keep a shot glass of sugar water (suggested by the vet) in her cage now. She is still blind and doesnt move around much, but she is alive.

Okay, I talked to the vet, and she seemed confident he was bitten and got an infection. She said an emergency visit isn't required, just to keep an eye on him over night, and bring him in first thing in the morning for treatment.

Hope she's right.

I just took my mostly outside cat to the vet yesterday for basically the same thing. He looked like he had a golf ball under his right eye. The vet drained it, gave him an antibiotic shot, gave me some antibiotic liquid to give him, and that was that.

Just got back from the vet, she said we got it early enough before it turned into a full blown infection. So, I give him antibiotics for 10 days and ensure he eats, and he should be fine :)

I'm just worried that he won't eat, and then there will be big problems...

That's great to hear! Bribe him with his favorite food....our girls always get bribed with the soft canned food since they never normally eat it. When we flew them down from Canada, they wouldn't eat for two weeks....the bribe worked with the soft canned food and they fattened up nicely. :)

I've noticed that cat fighting and cat fvcking sound very much the same.

Maybe some other cat made him his bitch?

On a serious note, I hope he's OK!
