Cat has Kidney disease

My cat was just diagnosed with severe kidney disease and possibly kidney failure. He's getting IV fluid replacement now to confirm. Has anyone had a cat < 8 years old with this diagnosis?

My wife's cat has some kind of kidney or bladder problems. I get the 2 mixed up so I don't remember which the vet said. He got stones and nearly died about a year and a half ago but we put him on special stone reducing food and he got better. Initially he had pain when urinating and blood in his pee. Now he doesn't have pain when urinating but we occasionally see blood in his pee. Other than that he seems to be in perfect health.

Odds are this is nothing like what your cat has though.
Hopefully this is something the vet can fix. Losing a cat who was 14 years old was hard enough, I'd hate to lose a cat that was just 4 years old.

My cat was only 2 when he was diagnosed with kidney failure. Unfortunately for him, he didnt make it long and we had to put him down only about a week or two after diagnosis.

Thanks for the replies guys...I have to call the vet tomorrow and see how he's doing...48 hours at the vet hooked up to an IV...he's gotta be freaking out..

A lot of the dry commercial cat foods are not urinary track friendly.

Look into Friskies 'Special Diet' for the dry food, and don't give them too much of the canned at once,
just about a spoonful at a time, make it last for 4 feeding in a day.

Well, dry food can cause a lot of kidney problems. But I thought those had more to do with stones and crystal-related problems.

I hope your cat feels better with a special diet. I always thought it would be the dry food which causes kidney/urinary tract disease but I'll start feeding my other cat with less canned food.
