I've been looking but have only found 1000ft spindles of CAT6 STP cables.

would anyone know where i can get 100ft STP ? Probably only need 50ft.

I need to run a CAT6 or CAT5e from my first floor to the second floor. There isn't a path i can follow, maybe electrical, that doesn't involve some sheetrock cutting and hours of frustration.

That being said, i'd just like to run from my room outside, up the wall through an existing hole directv has, into the room right above me..

any good links where i can find this cable or even something clever i can do inside the house ?

And no, i'm not doing WDS unless i really really have to..

Here
They advertise 15% off coupon right below the price as well apparently.
Also, bensbargains has codes for them regularly up to 50% off for the Keydex brand.

I don't see any STP cables on that page, unless i'm missing something ?

I won't be running this cable thru a pipe -- but maybe a flexible sleeve that's weatherproof could work ?

ideas ?

Any reason you haven't considered a wireless access point? I'm going thru three, 8" thick concrete walls over about 50 feet of distance and I still get a very usable signal on my laptop.

Running a UTP cable exposed to the elements is asking for trouble. A flexable, water-tight sleeve could work but you would have to secure said sleeve to the building just like you would conduit, else it'll blow all over the place. And you'd have to water proof the in/out points too. Oh, it'll work for a week. Or a year. Or a month. Or two days. You get the point, I'm sure.

If you absolutely cannot drill a hole in the ceiling to get the cable up there, wireless is a better idea.

Didn't see the STP part sorry as I don't deal much with cables. The store I linked before only has STP cat6 up to 35' but I found something here and here. They both have good reviews on resellerratings (8 total for the 1st one and 77 for the 2nd).

MichaelD -- what kind of wireless gear are you running ?

Are you using Tomato/DD-WRT/Stock ?

What kind of security do you have implemented ? WDS ?

I might consider wireless..

I have a US Robotics 9108 DSL Gateway. Security wise, I am running WPA/TKIP with a really long passphrase. The wireless is locked down to my laptop's MAC address only, and I don't broadcast my SSID. My security is pretty tight.

Nothing beats a wired connection; Modelworks linked to some good cable but you would still have to SECURE that cable to the outside of the house. If you leave it flapping around in the wind, it will break eventually.

I'd give wireless a shot. You could buy the stuff, test it out and return it the same day if it didn't work.

You may also want to check down Power Line networking. I use that at my Parent's house, where I have a difficult time getting wireless signals from one end to the other, as it's a long 1-story house, with the internet connection in my mom's office at one extreme, and my dad's office at the other.

I use some off-brand Zyxel 85MB Powerline Adapters (4 total) to provide the connection between the offices, as well as for the replaytv's in the living room and their bedroom. Works really well, no setup required, had them up and running in about 10 minutes. It's an alternative to wireless if you are worried about the security issues.
