I am tryin gto run a ethernet cable 300-400 feet i length, but the signal is too weak. Any know th eeffective length ofthe cat % cable, or if ther is a signal booster for cat 5 cable?
 
Best to ask this is the networking forum. However the cat 5 standard allows for maximum 300' cable length. If you are making your own cable be aware that improper cable termination etc can lead to degraded performance as well.
 
yeah what he said. i think the length is more like 328' to be more precise...but im not 100%. close enough though hehe.

also, i do believe there is a signal booster for cat5s. try checking with your local frys or something. or just wait for more replies. OOOORRR you could ask in the networking forum like Hanpan said.

I recall the maximum length of cat5 between repeaters as 100 meters. I'm an idiot as far as metric-english conversion goes, but 1 meter is a little more than 1 yard, which is 3 feet. So a little over 300 feet tops.
 
If we want to be exact the standard is in fact 100 meters. Which is exactly 328.08398950131233595800524934383 feet.
