Cat 4.3 Big Trouble In Little ATI Town.

Ok well I used driver cleaner and then installed these 4.3 drivers and now my Half-Life CS Steam install comes up with errors ? so I reinstalled steam and I?m still getting an error and stream wont start ! I went from a Geforce FX 5900nu to a ATI9800 Pro Extreme Edition. ( 400Mhz Core 700Mhz Ram ) I never had any problems when upgrading drivers with the Geforce but this thing wasn?t so lucky.

Should I try going back to drivers 4.2 or format and try 4.3 ?? everything else works fine with these drivers just steam is totally screwed no matter how many times I install it.

Stupid ATI !!! I think Nvidia blow ATI away in the driver department.

If your games work, why upgrade drivers? If you upgrade just for curiosity, reinstall the old ones again... whats so hard about this? Seen a lot of threads lately complaining about ATI drivers, I've had just as many problems with Nvidia drivers. If you can't deal with the trial-and-error required in computer configuration, buy a Dell.

Yep well i went back to the 4.2 Drivers and Steam is working fine now 😉 ... new drivers = new bugs not very impressive if u ask me.

What error were you getting?

His point is very valid though. Why should we be forced to use older versions of the drivers for one of the most played games currently available. I also noticed some bad bugs with the 4.3's and counter-strike. Back to the 4.2's and everything works great.

OpenGL side of 4.3 drivers is bit shaky so no wonder if you had some problems. Main improvement on 4.3 is 10% boost on pixel shader 2.0 speed (I think Halo/Farcry/TRAOD etc. are improved by it)

I`ve not tried CS yet with the new 4.3s but playing TFC via Steam in OpenGL works fine,I`ve played about 10 rounds so far,Steam itself has always been buggy, right now it seems to be more or less stable, ironically I had more Steam problems with my Nvidia card in my backup PC,I put it down to Steam not Nvidia.

UPDATE:Just tried CS via Steam, had no problems, works fine with the 4.3 drivers in OpenGL mode.

Just use 4.2's. Not that big of a deal IMO, so what if you don't have the highest version number for drivers?

Noooooo......I have nightmares about that! 😱
