I heard that ATI had new Catalyst drivers out, so I went to the download site at ATI and noticed the whole package is over 22MB - a bit steep for my 56k dial-up connection.

The question I have is do I need to download the whole 22MB package or can I just download the "display driver" portion which is about 8mb and update from that.

BTW what is the latest feedback on the Cat 3.10's performance/issues etc

Thanks

Yes you can download the driver and control panel separately,I believe they are 7.63mb and 9.68mb each.Always best to download both driver and control panel with the same version number, remember to remove old control panel and drivers first before install.

Thanks for the quick answer Mem, it will save me an hour or so of downloading time, and yes I will take your advice and remove the old control panel & driver first.

Thanks again

A question to you Rebel50. Do your current drivers have any problems with any games?
I'm running Cat 3.6's and also have a 56k, and I'm not going to bother to download the 10's because I haven't really got any problems, and it's not worth the risk/time. I would only upgrade if you need to.

I`ve never had any problems from 3.4s all the way up to 3.10s,maybe because I always use Driver Cleaner, also remember newer drivers have bug fixes as well. It`s not really a problem updating drivers.

Yes, they have fix a bug with NFSU for me and seem to perform quite well in my 9700pro.

After a "slight" problem with the install, I have to say that theay are running great. UT2003 is as smooth as silk. Previous drivers would have heavy mouse lag in the menu section, and lose movement(uncontrolled spins). Now I can fly though it all (Now, if I was any good - that would be even better!!!)

Benches are up a bit slightly. If any negs, I noticed a bit of stuttering during 3DMark2001SE during the ____ (Can't remember# - 1 light/8 lights - merry go round gargoyle - what ever) test.

The new 3.10 driver is also WHQL-certified and fixes the Call of Duty crashing problem. Before these drivers, you had to download the non-WHQL "fix" for this problem. Seems good to me.

Thanks for the replies folks - firstly Mem, I do have a copy of the Driver Cleaner you referred to, which I will most certainly use - especially after some of the problems I have had in the past with Nvidia drivers. I sure hope the Cat's update easier.

To answer your comment Lonyo, I am fully aware of the "if it aint broke dont play with it" issue - but hey what's the good of having a PC if you can't tinker with it - then spend the next week doing a re-install etc. I am currently running Cat 3.8 drivers, which I have been using since I installed the Video Card (R9600 Pro), they seem to work OK. I mainly play UT2K3

I got the Cat 3.8's off a magazine cover CD which are usually a couple months behind the latest. Anyway I read some where that the install programs that come on the driver disk with the video card installs a lot of extra stuff which is not needed.

I sounds as though the Cat 3.10's have a number of bug fixes etc so I think they are probably worth a try - most of the feedback I have read seems positive - so here goes.

The zoom in the sniper rifle in halo works now (it doesn't turn black now). The other grip I had before was when playing mechwarrior3, these red highway stripes would appear on the ground but now they are fixed.
