Hey all
I was reading the reviews of the 7970ghz edition and was curious about the driver. AMD's website only shows as 12.6 beta as available. Where are people getting 12.7?

As good as 12.7 seems to be in the reviews anyway, is there any reason to grab 12.6 when its out of beta? I'm using 12.4 issue-free right now, not sure if its worth going to 12.6 then 12.7.

I forgot what driver version I was using before, but I got a beta...sometime in May which introduced a scaling issue (ie the scaling for my monitor didn't kick for at least 30-40 seconds after boot.)

When I updated to 12.6 Betas that issue was resolved. I then tried the 12.7 Beta downloaded from Guru (but they use a custom installer which made me a little nervous) and the scaling issue returned.

I uninstalled and went back to 12.6 beta and the scaling issue is still there. It isn't a huge issue, but it's rather annoying, outside of that 12.6 gave me no issues.

I, did, however notice 12.7 had an interesting profile fro WoW. The game looked "odd" to me and forcing my normal profile fixed it. I'd wager they optimized WoW some more to improve benchmark scores. I didn't bother to check reviews to see if anyone benched WoW, but the game definitely looked different - like paper cut outs.

For some reason, Guru3D is the other outlet for "official" AMD drivers. The changelog is ridiculously sparse so I'm sticking with 12.6 for now, which is the most stable driver I've used in the last four months or so. When AMD releases a new public driver, it'll likely during a different month and ergo different version number. 12.8 or 12.9 if I had to guess.

I'm using the 12.7 beta driver without issue so far.

About a week in. No benches yet though

There's a thread over at [H] about these. I am now using them, but it was a process...

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1701236

What do you mean by "it was a process?"

Anyone here having UI scaling issues? I have my set to 0% Underscan, and if I reboot, upon getting back into Windows (Splash screen is fine) it reverts to 15% Underscan and I can either wait 30-40 second for it to revert to normal or go into CCC and move the slider out from 0% and back to 0%. Since I'm not adjusting anything there is no option to Accept/Apply.

Really annoying.

For me I had to work through a longer than usual series of uninstalls of the previous drivers and all traces and registry cleaning and so on and so forth. I still think I've got some driver cleaning to do actually, since I hit a Bad Pool Error last night.

I used to just install new drivers over the old no problem, but using the betas requires a little block of time to make sure everything works properly.

I'm in that thread giving up at one point, and then following a list of steps provided by a user there in order to get things to work.

I just read through it and saw. Drivers for me have normally been fine without issues, then again I don't really run my cards in exotic configurations/clocks.

However, this scaling issue sure is annoying and it started with the 12.5 beta (if I recall.) This recent install with 12.7 was on a fresh install of Win7 so I assumed the driver was botched due it being a leak and not official. Got 12.6 from AMD.com and still got the scaling issue. Will work it tonight, maybe its a monitor driver issue.

Noob question: I know AMD has moved to a "quality over quantity" release schedule, but 12.4 (the latest "stable" release) has some serious issues with 7800 cards crashing on monitor sleep. Right now I'm using the 12.6 beta because it's far more stable.

As a 7870 user, is there any good reason for me to upgrade to the 12.7 beta? Or should I stick with 12.6 beta?

Do you have recommended method for cleaning the catalyst drivers. I use the latest driversweeper but it does not remove stuff like the hdmi audio drivers and some registry settings.

Check out that [H] thread. There's a tool (atiman uninstaller - here: http://atiman.go-board.net/) that helps clear it all out.

Hopefully you can get cleaned out properly... but it's definitely a pain.
