I wouldn't be shocked if reviewers have them, much like they get hardware early. Or they're using 10.3a maybe?

I believe so. All performance boosts in 10.3a will instead be officially found in 10.4, as I remember the announcement that went along with the 10.3a driver.

it's important for ATI to time this right for all the Fermi reviews. so instead of bringing the boost in April, they call it 10.3a.

this review (http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/3196/high_end_radeons_then_and_now/index.html) shows a comparison between launch drivers for ATI 5XXX series and the new 10.3 drivers. thats quite an achievement as far as optimizations go.

personally, i don't care if a driver is optimized for a specific game, since i only see the end result which is FPS and image quality. some "purists" would say "heh, that card is weak so they need game specific optimizations, why cant they get it right the first time?" or the "one driver fits all" approach, but it shouldn't matter to anyone except the engineers who write the drivers.

Downloaded. . . installed. . . . two bluescreens in 15 minutes. . . uninstalled Back to Cat9.11 I go.

Edit: Being stupid. . . occasionally my motherboard "forgets" my overclock, and I must've set it up wrong. Prime95 overnight and I'm sorted. . .now working fine

10.3a is a newer driver than 10.3 whql. It has performance improvements that weren't ready in time to be put through the 10.3 whql approval process. 10.4whql will have everything in 10.3a.

is that really the only difference? just AvP optimization & eyefinity 6 support? so all the other performance improvements (dirt2, Crysis, & Resident evil 5) are available in the 10.3 WHQL? if so then i guess i'll download it since i dont own AvP and eyefinity means nothing to me.

I hope so!

I uninstalled the 10.3a yesterday to install the 10.3.
But for now, in Just Cause 2 and Age of Conan there's no difference at all in performance so I think all the other improvements made their way in 10.3 WHQL.
