With the recent news of Starcraft 1 becoming free, a bunch of us got 'united' to play it on bnet for old times sake. We ended up having a blast- 5 of us. We used google vidchat to talk & played various matches. It was fun.

We are now looking for more games. Requirements:

1. Easy to pick up and play- most of us are casual gamers. We want relatively easy & but fun games to play. This rules out some games I liked playing personally - Dota 2 (or LoL), etc. SC1 was an exception because we all learned from our teenage days.

2. Free or very cheap cost barrier- but we can all spend $$ if it's interesting enough.

3. Able to support 2-6 players playing together-

4. Is an ONLINE PC game. I see suggestions for in-person games or requiring a console.

This rules out all of MMOs or Diablo clones. How does Alien Swarm play? Is that maxed at 4 players or 8? Other games?

My brother picked up JackBox recently. It's an interactive variation of the "You Don't Know Jack" trivia games. The main game is hosted on a console and each player uses their own mobile device (phone or tablet) to submit their answers, votes, and other actions related to the game. It's surprisingly fun as long as all players are in the same room. It can be played remotely but loses most of the fun that way.

If you can live with some games that only support 4 people.... Magicka and Gauntlet come to mind.

Rocket League. You'll need controllers if you don't already have them, but it's a PC game and it's tons of fun.

Overwatch is an easy suggestion. Warhammer End Times Vermintide is also a good one.

7 days to die on steam PC/Mac only do not get the console version

http://store.steampowered.com/app/251570/

You can run a multiplayer game locally on one machine but 6 players connecting may be a bad experience. You can rent game servers for $15-20 per month if you want to keep it private or you could all join an open server that is free.
The game is not on sale but it does frequently go on sale, it's early access but works pretty good and has tons of difficulty options. 7 Days is essentially mine craft with zombies.

I know you mentioned Dota2 and LoL, which in my opinion have high barriers of entry...

but what about Heroes of the Storm? Another blizz product, and it is extremely noob friendly..and FUN... and you can play against bots all day if you want.

edit: oh and its free.

2nd votes for Rocket League and JackBox (although that's more of an in-person thing).
