Wonder if any of the hollywood celebrities who have made trips down there to praise Castro and Cuba are going to say anything about this...

Or Virginia, or Kentucky, or Indiana, or (insert name of state with death penalty)

But, could they have possibly received a fair trial??

CNN Article

The firing squad sentences were carried out immediately after a Cuban court found the men guilty of terrorism.

They were part of a gang of approximately 10 involved in the April 2, 2003, hijacking in which the ferry, carrying at least 30 men, women and children, was forced to sail into the Straits of Florida, but ran out of fuel 30 miles from Havana.

9 days from hijacking to firing squad?

Actually...heck...I wish that was the way it was done here! Screw the 27 years of appeals. ;)

Actually Texas is right. Those other states aren't even in Texas's league.

Last time I checked, someone who steals a ferry (theft) doesn't get the death penalty anywhere in the United States. It is usually reserved for murder. That is a bit of a difference.

Edit: or hijacking, unless they killed someone in the process.

In this case, yes. I'm sure they were given a full hearing and right of appeal as well....

Actually, one does not qualify for the death penalty in Texas for merely hijacking a ferry. Committing a murder during the commission of a felony - you can get the death penalty for that.

This is Chinese-style justice if it is anything.
