I was tasked with finding a difficult game for my fiance's nephew. He is turning 8 and burns through DS games. He typically plays side-scrollers from movies he sees, but also has beaten zelda, mario, etc.

I was thinking about getting him Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. I found it for $34.99, free shipping from buy.com, but it's sold out. Everywhere else lists it for $45ish which seems high for a game made in 2005. Anyone know where to buy this one?

Is this going to be too graphic for him? It's listed as T, but its just a side-scroller. I can't see it being too bad. Opinions?

(or a different game I should look into getting him for his birthday?)

I don't know when his bday is, but there's a new Castlevania coming out 10.21.08, that's very similar to Dawn of Sorrow. I've played all the Castlevania DS games so far and they're great. Even the GBA ones were fun. You could get him the Castlevania:Double Pack for less then $30.

If you want to go for a Castlevania game maybe track down Portrait of Ruin for DS. It came out after Dawn of Sorrow and I heard it was a bit better.

If he'll go for GBA games maybe get Metroid Fusion or Metroid Zero Mission. Zero Mission is a remake of the first Metroid and Fusion is a pretty big change to the traditional Metroid experience.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is the 3rd installment on DS and comes out 10/21. For cheap games, you should try Amazon.com market place. $22 for dawn of sorrow and $19 for portrait of ruin, plus shipping. It's used though.

I've just started dawn of sorrow last night, pretty damn good game.
