Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for DS

I finished Portrait of Ruin and now started Dawn of Sorrow. So far, I don't like it as much as PoR. PoR was more straightforward where DoS makes you go all over the map and it makes it harder to figure out what to do. I also don't care for the puzzles you have to figure out to get through some areas. I like puzzles, but in a puzzle game, not a platformer.

I think the atmosphere in PoR was better also.

Not very many puzzles in DoS. The only one I remember encountering is the grid room with all the numbers where you had to connect the numbers in order to be able to enter the certain room. It actually could have even been skipped entirely if you didn't care for the items.

The linearity of PoR was a common criticism, and I agree. DoS was more like all the other "Metroidvania"-type games going back to Symphony of the Night, where you had one big castle and you had to figure out where to go next after getting new abilities. I thought it was cool to have other non-castle environments though in PoR.

Heh. I'm the opposite. I liked Dawn of Sorrow better and for the exact same reasons you gave. I still loved both games though.

I may pick this game up today.

haven't played that one but PoR and DoS are pretty much exactly like Symphony of the Night

Very similar to Circle of the Moon but more forgiving in terms of difficulty (i.e. easier to get around, especially to save points). At least, that's been my experience.

You can equip different weapons (other than just a whip) and use a variety of spells (not just the typical Castlevania boomerang, knife, etc.).

I really hope they make another Castlevania DS game.
