Yeah it was cool but I don't think it's one of those that you can watch over and over again.

some of my favs:

Contact
Leon (AKA The Professional)
Shawshank Redemption
Braveheart
Gattaca
Close Encounters of the Third Kind

etc. etc.

I was a little surprised that Tom Hanks didn't win any awards for his role...

Tom Hanks was absolutely amazing in Cast Away (although it's not too surprising). It's hard to act by yourself for almost the entire film!

the name is cast away, not castaway.

the difference is, one means tom hanks pretty much got cast away, like yesterday's garbage.

it's a play on words.

One of the best parts of Castaway IMO is when he starts talking to "Wilson"

I didn't like Cast Away (that much). I think it could have used further editing.

I did like:
Pay it Forward (Excellent Hollywood Magic in a family film)
and
Traffic

Lot's of other RECENT good films like the campy Shadow of the Vampire and the surreal O Brother . . . but the first two listed stood out as really excellent in their own way.

Actually...I found that castaway was like one of the worst movies I've EVER seen. Definately one of Tom Hanks worse movies. The only positive
side that I could find from the movie is survival tips in case your trapped on a deserted island. Story was...um....boring. Plot was umm...terrible. Ending was just..lame. I'm suprised I didn't fall asleep during the movie. Definately not my type of movie. I found nothing exciting about the movie to keep me interested. I couldn't wait till the end.

Never going to rent the movie at movie store. I'll pass thanks.

My idea of a great movie is not one where a guy talks to a soccer ball for over half of it.

Well, Cast Away is a film that requires an open mind to an extent, I guess this says a lot about some of our members here at AT. :p

I thought Cast Away was good, but not excellent. I think they should have shortened the time we see him alone on the island, and focused more on his return. We see him for almost 2 hours alone, then they spend 20 minutes of how he is affected when he comes back. Tom Hanks was great, but it's not really the kind of movie you win an Oscar for. (it also didn't help that he's won a few already...)
