All these steak threads have me wanting to buy a cast iron pan. Only problem is we have a glass top induction stove, so the worry is scratching the hell out of it with a heavy pan.

There are enameled options by brands like Lodge / Le Creuset, but I have no idea if those offer the same benefits / can be used the same way (e.g. in and out of the oven etc.).

Help me cast iron gurus.

I have a Le Creuset enamelled cast iron skillet, works amazing and is fine on the piece of shit asshole induction stove I have. I really want to break it so I can justify getting gas installed and geting a proper stove. Stupid-ass stove.

Cast iron is softer than stainless.

I use cast iron on my glass top stove; I haven't noticed any abrasions.

I scratched my glass top stove with a cast iron skillet. If you don't slide it around it should be OK, but I screwed up and did and left some scratches.

Enamelled cookware offers the durability of cast iron without the need to season it. Invest in a good set of enamel pots and they'll last you forever.

Enameled cast iron should work fine and there aren't really any major negatives that I know of.
