Cast Iron cookware

is there any actual cooking advantage to cast iron cookware vs. regular teflon stuff, other than being longer lasting and sturdier? Does it make the food cook differently / taste different?

cast iron can be heated to a much higher temperature and will retain heat better. If you're going to brown meat, cast iron is the way to go.

When I can't put a steak on a hot grill, I heat my cast iron until it smokes and lay down the meat for a minute on each side.
