Preparing for the camping trip this weekend. Pulled out the cast iron dutch oven and re-seasoned it.

Can't wait to get some good camp food cooking. Weather should be nice as well.

Gotta love a cooking device that will out live you. And your kids. And probably their kids.

🙂

Yarr - My favorite two pans are both cast iron (a skillet and a griddle) which I bought at a yard sale from an older woman who was cleaning out her mother's house. I have no idea how old they are, except the woman (early 60's!?!) who sold them to me told me her mother had them as long as she could remember.

Yep. My 12" frying pan is from 1950'something. It was originally from a great grandma that is now passed down to it's 4th generation user.

what, no cast iron frying pan?

Yeah, but I use that constantly so it just sits on the top of my stove and is always ready to go. Don't use the dutch oven except for camping or bbq and the season for that just started.

Mentioning bbq....made some awesome baby back ribs last night. Sooooo good.

And all that wonderful food that has been imparted into it over the years!

I do not have a cast iron griddle yet, that and a 12" deep dutch oven will probably be what I get next.

I just cooked brownies last night. To cool the pans quicker, I thought of flipping my cast iron frying pans upside down and setting the cake pans on them. What an awesome heat sink. Cooled down a lot faster that way.

Yup they sure do soak up heat.

Anything made in a cast iron dutch oven tastes 20% better than the same item cooked in anything else.

I would like to pick up a nice dutch oven. hoping to find one at a garage sale or auction t his summer.
