I sometimes make DVD slideshows for weddings and funerals and VHS to DVD convesions for extra cash. I've been looking for something to make my DVD's more professional looking, but paper labels can throw them off balance. I found This while doing some browsing on line. It is around $99 at office depot. Anybody have any experience with this product who can tell whether this is a warm or hot deal?

Here are its specs on casio's site.

I too am curious about this unit. I'm wondering how long an ink cartridge will last.

Might I suggest just buying labels for your current printer?

It gives you MUCH more options........and graphics!!!
If you have Nero or Roxio CD Creator, you're all set.....if not, there's free apps you can download.

To print, you might need special CD/DVD's that are meant for printing of this type....

"This printer is a thermal transfer printer, whose print head must be able to move across the surface of the CD-R.? Because of this, satisfactory printing results may not be possible if you try to print on a ink jet printable disc, or on a disc whose lable has a rough surface or some design within the area printed by the printer.

We recommend that you print on the CD-R media before storing data on it.? Note that CASIO makes no guarantees concerning the loss of data caused by label printing.? Before purchasing this product, understand that CASIO shall not be held responsible for any legal claims arising through the use of this product, including but not limited to those involving recorded media contents.? This printer cannot be used to write data onto a CD-R.? The color of a disc label can affect the printing color"

I'm not too sure about the casio, however i will recommend to NEVER use the sticker label type......I'm sure it doesnt happen often, but there are chances that the label can come loose and mess up whatever drive you're using it in. Good ole sharpie for me! Actually just bought a fine point one for the first time this weekend, i like it alot.

Several manufacturers sell printable surface cd's or dvd's (Fuji, Memorex, and Ritek come to mind off-hand), and Epson has a line of printers that does an incredible job printing on these. It has a special cartridge that centers the disc and allows a full disc print with a really professional finish. The Epson R-200, R-300, and I believe R-500 make up this series of printers with the R-200 being found for under $200.

Does anyone know why Epson is the only one that makes printers that can print on DVD/CDs? I'm suprised that HP, Lexmark, or Cannon hasn't introduced any models that can do this too.

I just bought the R200 for $85 shipped from Amazon. It' 6 color and does an excellent job on disks and photos. Compared to the Casio at $55 shipped with only one color it seems like a no-brainer to me.

I've got one of the casio's, as a matter of fact i put it in the FS area awhile back. They are decent, but not what most people think. They are not designed to do fancy graphics on blank cd/dvds, pretty much text only. Great for doing Indexes/TOCs as well as titles. The print quality is best on silvers, cd/dvd's with no marking or printing of their own. I used mine for about 2 months for mixed music cds and then boxed it up. Not a bad little gadget, but i wouldn't be suprised if there is something better out there for your purposes. Hope this helps.

I bought the one with the keyboard on BF from OM for $70 AR. I agree with LanFear that I am kind of disappoint at the printer. It doesn't print well on disc with marking on it, most of the cds and dvd have something on it. I found that printing on disc with marking oftern F up the print ribbon. I think I will ebay mine lucky that when I bought the printer OM can't find the rebate from and give me a $20 instant credit. One more thing it doesn't support forgien character (ie. Chinese, Japanese, Korean), you can't print any forgien character with this printer.

Costco has the R300 for $114, also does business card size CD/DVD. They had these in the B & M this weekend here in Albuquerque.

Not to contribute to the hot deal hijack or anything, but damn, that Epson R200 appears to be exactly what I've been looking for... and the price/functionality is definitely much better than the dedicated units. :D

The Primera Signature Z1 seems to be a pretty neat. It is thermal and can do graphics. http://www.primera.com .
froogle or pricegrabber for prices. The Casios seem to be a bit more problematic. I hesitate to recommend Epson because of their well-known clogging problems and that you have to use printable disks - OTOH, they are general-purpose printers, so you only have to clutter up your workspace with one printer.
. The Primera works well with standard disks like Fuji, TDK, Imation etc. - ones that don't already have printed backs.
. Some of the Canon Pixma models are set up for CD printing in their European versions. IDK why they chose to exclude that feature on the North American models - one would think it would have helped sales here quite a bit. Perhaps Canon is using Europe as a test market and will include the feature in the next rev if it works out there. Some of the necessary parts are already present on the NA models. If you're willing to risk a print head, there is a special thick-media setting that can be accessed from the latest version of the driver and you could attempt a semi-manual feed. :) Not recommending, just suggesting...
