CASINO - Yes or No?

The state of Maine is deciding on a Casino here for the local Indians. Tons of people for and against it, Maine is quite a depressed state, last in income. Very low Population for being bigger than the rest of New England combined. Scenic yet poor.

I just think it might help out, while others feel it will only lead to crime, etc.

Thoughts?

Are there casinos in the states nearby? If not, it could bring out-of-state revenue and that would be a good thing. If gambling is readily accessible nearby and there is no regular influx of money, casinos are then just a drain on the financial infectructure of the state. The poor, looking to get rich just become more poor.

How's the tourism there? Is it a big enough industry to support casinos?

The best spot for it would be by the state's border, for out-of-state revenue, as the population is so dispersed. And why not? Whats so wrong with gambling? If you have lotto, gambling already exists.

We have the biggest casino here in CT. They said it would bring a lot of money into the state, but somehow we've got a deficit now.

I hate casinos anyway. You never see anybody smiling there, and you have to fight some 75 year old granny with a 5 inch but hanging out of her mouth that's hogging three slot machines and gambling her retirement away.

All in all a depressing place - maybe that's because I never win...

We get tons of money from the casinos, and no one forced them to give us anything! Our governor just sucks and couldn't manage excess cashflow from the casinos. If we didn't have the casinos, we would have an even worse deficit.

Play the odds. In other words.. Don't play the slots.

Casinos brought *huge* amounts of money to my home town, Biloxi, MS and an extreme population boom. Cost of Living skyrocketed and some local businesses (especially restaurants) are closing down.

Casino is always a bad idea. Heck, it's worse than drinking and other stuff. I mean, you can lose lots of money at once. Never in my life I'd go there since I work to get money and don't play for it.
