Casino locations...

I realize that gambling is now legal in 48 states, as oppose to just 2 states in 1988. My question is though, is it legal to have a casino anywhere in those 48 states now, or do they have to be on indian reservatios/offshores or something of that sort? Im a bit confused cause I thought that since the states have legalized casino's, they should be able to be located anywhere. But in Michigan (where I used to live) and now in Florida, the only places Ive seen casinos were on river boats or indian reservations.

in missouri, they made it a requirement that the casino has to be on a "river boat" in the missouri river

they got around that by building the casino next to the river, and then making a "moat" around the building and putting a bridge from the parking lot to the casino, like a gangway that ships use. then they make you wait in a lobby area and only let you go into the casino at certain "boarding times" , to simulate the times the "river boat" is docked and undocked. something really stupid like that

native americans can open casinos almost anywhere they can claim land used to belong to their tribe

I don't think it is legal in 48 states. Gambling/lotto is illegal here in Alabama. Perhaps you might be correct if you include Indian Casinos - which are actually considered to be on Federal Land, so the State laws don't have supremacy.

Uh. Casinos are regulated by state law, and the majority of states do not allow casinos. Some allow slots only.

There's going to be a $400 million addition to the casino in this city (Windsor, Ont.). They say it'll be on par with a "Vegas" casino; they want to compete with the 3 in Detroit.

It's ok to go see all the lights and fanfare, and to eat. I spend $20 on video poker so I'm not much of a gambler. I hear the live shows are great though.

Windsor has been hit hard by the casinos in Detroit. While I think Windsor is a better place, I can't justify the cost in both time and money to get over the border.
