got one today figured I would cash it at my bank tomorrow, not thinking it was a personal check and for $700, I'm guessing my bank (Wells Fargo) would place a hold on the check for a few days before making the funds avilable. I don't know their policy though so I will call them in the morning and find out.

If they won't do it, it's from Washington Mutual, would anyone know their policy for non account holders cashing checks? I know when I tried to cash a personal check from BofA I had problems because I only have one form of ID with my picture on it (they asked for 2) I have a D.L. and a Visa card that's all. Would I have any problem walking into W.U. and getting it cashed?

I have been able to cash checks at WAMU that were drawn on a personal account with no fees or issues.

/disclaimer
The check was from a family member

Usually when I transfer any funds from my account in my hometown (small community bank in ND) to my Wells Fargo account here (Minneapolis), it takes a few days for the funds to go through. If it's a lot more than you usually deposit, there could be a hold on it, usually around 3 days (this happens whenever I put money in my account for tuition). However, if you're getting any cash from it, at least at Wells Fargo you need 2 forms of ID.

For a check of that amount I like to cash it at the bank it was drawn on. You may incur fees if you cash it at your bank and it bounces.
