Cashing in USPS money orders

I sent a money order to a seller via USPS priority mail envelope last Friday, Nov. 7.

I've done business with him for many years and he told me he has gotten it yet as of today. I also checked the tracking on USPS and it was dispatched from VA and hasn't been updated yet. No one else can cash in those money orders, unless it's the person whom I addressed to, correct?

And if someone else besides him cashed in, what can I do in terms of legal matters? It's fairly a large amount (+$1000).

My only experience with USPS Money Order. If it is lost they will make you wait 30 days before they will reimburse you.

Should have sent it certified mail. They sign for it, your responsibility is done. You'll have to wait 30 business days, then you can submit form PS Form 6401 at your local Post Office. There is a $6.00 fee to trace it.

If you can demonstrate that the check was stolen and cashed; you will be refunded.

The check can be cashed at any USPS office as well as most banks/check cashing locations.

Any place that will cash the check will require a photo ID.
The USPS will aggressively pursue claims of fraud - just file a claim at you local USPS location. The full weight of the Federal government will be behind the investigation.

He has or has not gotten it?
You state indicates that he has; but your intent seems to be that he has not

If he has gotten it, it is his responsibility.
If not; then the two of you can decide how much longer to wait before asking for the MO to be voided and replaced.
