Unions already destroyed the car industry, education and health care are next.
Other way 'round. They destroyed education a looooong time ago. It's just the chickens came home to roost earlier for the car industry because they have shareholders and accountants to answer to. There are no accounting rules in government so the NEA and accomplices can keep their side of the charade up a couple decades longer.

It's hard to feel much pity for the education coffers of NY when some districts have uncapped teacher contracts. My wife teaches in a district where some of the blue-haired teachers are making over $110K - and they're not in administrative roles. That's just for racking up the fixed raises and keeping your head down.

That's probably true. Where I live we have teachers meeting students on their own time at 6:00 am, and at night to bring those having trouble up to speed.

I'm pretty happy with my kid's teachers, and I'm not very happy that their funding is getting cut for the reason I say.

The politicians spent every cent they ever thought they'd get and we're taking the hit for it.

Sounds like people need to vote "no" when the school budget comes up. Of course, when it doesn't pass the first time, the school boards take it out on the children by cutting sports, arts, and tech instead of the bloated administration.

yea administration is fucking bloated in high school. When I was in high school (in the late 90's) we had one principal and one vice-principal. Now that same school has 6 vice principals. WTF?!

My daughter's kindergarten education so far has been phenomenal actually. Her teacher is fantastic in every regard, like a stereotype movie perfect template of a teacher. She is young, though, so probably doesn't make a ton. At least not yet...

God forbid a career professional retire with an excellent salary and benefit package. I know it is rare anymore, give it another decade or two - we'll all be making min wage.

So the fact that they can't afford it has no impact on the discussion whatsoever? Hell, I would like everyone to make an excellent salary and a benefit package, maybe we can just pay everyone with IOUs?

Doesn't really matter what you think they should make, hell it doesn't even matter what they are worth, if you flat out don't have it to spend. The end result is likely going to be a crapton more pain than if the people with the checkbook were more responsible in the first place even if that resulted in some people making less. A whole bunch of people that earned those pensions and currently depend on them are going to be in for a real rude awaking pretty soon. The money just isn't there and they can't get enough through any realistic means to cover it, exactly what do you think is going to happen?
