New York State Tax Refunds Put On Hold
Gov. Paterson Freezes $500 Million, Says Financial Situation The Case, Won't Start Sending Again Until April

-----------------------------------
Anyone wanna place bets on April not paying either?

Schools, Hospitals, Municipalities, Counties, and States continue to lay off millions. 500,000 a week still losing jobs. House delinquencies continues to go up. While distracted by the ticker, and you are being told this is a recovery, soon many of you will realize America outsourced is a banana republic.

When is Obama running A $2 TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT as far as eye can see gonna kick in?

NYS is not a clusterfuck b/c of the "Democrats". It's been a clusterfuck for years due to both parties and a shitty Legislature.

There were 457,000 initial jobless claims filed in the week ended March 13.

There were 457,000 initial jobless claims filed in the week ended March 13.

And the natural level of churn is ~300K, thus, only 150K of real jobs were lost.

I mean, really, can't you even use some real logic in your posts?

Initial jobless claims of 457K would mean more than 23MM people would lose their jobs annually, or about 47.4MM over the last 2 years. Considering there's about 138MM taxpayers in the US, that'd equate to about a 34% unemployment rate just from the recession. Add in natural unemployment would mean that ~40% of the population are unemployed.

Does that make much sense to you?

NY's government needs to be dissolved.
Tell that to people who were counting on the refund money to get them through these tough economic times.
Everyone please raise your hands if you HATE HATE HATE reading vague feel-good bullsh*t like this from the media. For pete's sake.

Not as much as I hate the Orwellian "It's getting worse, but less quickly" type headlines like "Mortgage delinquencies down in U.S., Utah" or "Mortgage delinquency rate on a decline" when in fact numbers went up last month but less quick.

Some truth to that - I would just take it another step and say it's the unions that call the shots in NY. The pols are just the marionettes. Find a union and its generally sucking the life out of anything it touches.

I would say that you can't really say that *all* unions are bad, but there definitely are quite a few in NY which are terrible. But it is the politicians that are passing or not passing budgets in NY, not a union, so ultimately, the moronic legislature is responsible (and somewhat the public - though, people in NY have been bitching for years with no results).

From my local paper today:

[superintendent] Brizard warns of more school district cuts, layoffs...Cuts to Rochester School District jobs and programs are needed to close a projected $61.1 million budget deficit for next year...Increases in salaries and retirement payments will drive up district costs as enrollment continues to shrink.

From my local paper today:

Sounds like people need to vote "no" when the school budget comes up. Of course, when it doesn't pass the first time, the school boards take it out on the children by cutting sports, arts, and tech instead of the bloated administration.

It was a real eye opener when my wife discussed the budget dilliberations. I was unaware that everyone employed by a school is in a union - bus drivers, administrators, janitors etc. I think the schools are over Unionized. As a point my wife was going to be forced to use School Bus drivers by the Buss Drivers Union even though they were 2x as expensive as a private coach bus would have been! (Due to overtime and after-hours pay). As a result they were unable to afford the field trip

You're forgetting that the reason this is an issue at all is because Paterson and Albany decided to take money earmarked for education to supply welfare.
It's hard to feel much pity for the education coffers of NY when some districts have uncapped teacher contracts. My wife teaches in a district where some of the blue-haired teachers are making over $110K - and they're not in administrative roles. That's just for racking up the fixed raises and keeping your head down.

God forbid a career professional retire with an excellent salary and benefit package. I know it is rare anymore, give it another decade or two - we'll all be making min wage.

God forbid they don't demand raises every year no matter their performance levels. It's a shame people don't care about their jobs anymore, it's all about how much are you going to pay me instead of may I help shape these minds to brighten our future.
