Glad their priorities are in order.

BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- Germany's cash-strapped government is paying 225,000 euros (U.S. $285,200) to build a tunnel to help frogs avoid the perils of a busy road, officials said Monday.

Ruediger Zech, a local council spokesman in the Berlin district of Reinickendorf, said the project would allow native varieties of toads, frogs and other amphibians to reach a nearby lake safely when they spawn in the spring.

Previously the creatures had been carried across the road in buckets by volunteers from nature protection groups.

The foreign ministry, headed by Green Party member Joschka Fischer, is funding construction of the tunnel near a training center for diplomats on the outskirts of Berlin.

A foreign ministry spokeswoman said the tunnel was part of a package of environmental measures agreed when the ministry took over the Villa Borsig, a country house located in a nature protection area in the north of Berlin.

Germany's government is expected to breach European Union budget deficit limits for a third year in a row in 2004

Do you think the frogs will know which part of the road the tunnel is located in? Will there be signs?

They could make the Diplomats that the road was built for pay for the Tunnel by making it a Toll Road. Of course they would just charge if off the citizens anyway so nevermind.

Such wonderful news. The tragedy of WW2 must have awakened the German mind more than in your typical nation. Real joy in life, so rare for so many, always manifests concomitant with a reverence for all life.

When I look at a frog, doesn't your heart leaps for joy? Such incredible beauty.

As you treat the least among you, so do you treat your real self. Viciousness is the product of self inflicted self contempt, it's permanence the product of ignorance and turning from the way.

But we don't get told very often. A waste of pearls, no?

If I have the jist of it, he said, "naturally there will be a man directing traffic," and I said "it would suck to have that job. "

I hate not being able to PM back:

Thanks, I found the modem at newegg. But do you know if they sell low profile modems, with the low profile bracket already attached? Seems like every place requires you to buy the bracket separately. I might just have to modify it myself then

Glad I could help. Unless you will be moving the PC around like crazy you don't really need the bracket. PCI slots are a lot better fit than the old ISA slots of yor.

Why not empty out your PM box? Anyway, I found what I'm looking for. Funny thing the search did not yield this the first time I was looking for it. LP Modem by AOpen

Yep that's the same as the Creative one I saw recently, they're all run down the same assembly line now anyway and just slapped with a different label, just like cars.

I had nearly a thousand PM's when got bumped from the subscription servers. It took me a while to get it under 500 when a couple of months ago they said they would start a 500 limit but that never happened. Since then I've gotten a bunch more PM's putting it back over 500. I'll start deleting again to get it under 500, hopefully they'll do the 500 thing soon.
