Cases with doors that clear the X-Fi I/O Drive Bay

Since I bit the bullet and bought a SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatal1ty (God, I feel stupid writing that name) when they were on sale at Fry's, now I need a case to put the thing in and hide away that fugly drive bay panel. Anybody tried to put one of these in a Lian Li PC-A10 or PC-V1100? Any other cases with doors that actually close over the big knobs that Creative puts on the panel?

I hate case doors (yes, I have a case with a door). You might want to see if the Cooler Master Mystiques will work...

Those are small knobs. Most any door except for perhaps the Wavemaster and one of the Silverstones (SST-TJ05?) with a similar minimal clearance door should handle that. If you don't want to spend a lot of money and still have a case that hits all the bases, see the Rosewill R5601/5604 series or this one R6AS5-BK.

The OP is writing this because most any door does NOT handle that. None of my Antec cases SLKxxxx or Super Lanboy would close. I have 2 other generic cases with doors that won't close either. I traded my X-Fi Fatality in for an Elite Pro for other reasons, otherwise I would have to remove the door.

Well I know my R5604 will fit the Sunbeam Rheobus whose knobs are at least as protruding as the OP's - Hey OP, how about measuring the distance your knobs stick out? The Rheobus knobs protrude a bit under 1/2" from its front panel which generally fits even with the case filler plates.

There are tons of ATers that have posted threads about their P180 mods, etc. Why not PM one of them and ask?

yes, it fits.

double confirmation. It fits, and a rheobus easily fits inside too.

Another good case would be the armor. Its front doors isnt really doors, more of gaurds. So im absolutely sure it will fit on it also.

Stacker has no doors, so i dont know if that fits in your catigory as well.

A small child would fit behind the Thermaltake Eureka's door. 😉 The iStar Nitro and Storm S6000 has room too - you can get the S6000 case without PSU from buildtoorderservers.com etc.

I'd say they stick out about a centimeter. If your Rheobus knobs clear the door, then I'd agree they'd probably clear the door on the Rosewill R5604. Unfortunately, I don't think the second 8800GTX I just bought will clear the hard drive cages in the 5604.

The 5601/5604 has 11 inches of card space. I thought the longest of those cards was 10.5" from the bracket face to the end.

Well, mid-tower cases are at least partly proportioned so their boxes will fit within the 84" (length+girth) limit many shipping companies use before surcharges kick in. Very hard to get much more than 11" within that limit. So now you're into Tt Eureka, Stacker, Silverstone TJ-05, etc. range.

Bingo. 832 door looks like it would fit the bill. Still, not as classy looking as Lian Li A10 so I'm still not ready to pull the trigger.

Why does it have to look classy? I like the futurish look even more. We throw all that modern hi-tech hardware in there. Do you want it to look classy outside and be a monster on the inside?
The Stacker 830/832 would give you enough space on the inside and the best airflow w/ up to 9x120mm fans.

Personal preference. I've already got a blinged out LED Fan/cold cathode windowed Lian Li PC-7 Plus and I was thinking of going with something a little more restrained this time around. Hell, maybe I'm just getting old. Next thing you know I'll be preferring "Murder She Wrote" to "Family Guy."

I checked with Rosewill and the R6A series has only 5mm clearance behind the door (just like the SLK3000-B - I had no idea they were so tight), the 5604 has 10mm and the 5601 has 15mm. So the 5601 is the only one of the good Rosewills that will hold the knobs without recessing the panel a bit.

So how bad does the X-Fi I/O Drive Bay Panel look when it's put into an absolutely drop dead gorgeous case without a door? This bad.

There oughta' be a law against installing non-color matched components in works of art like the Silverstone TJ-09.

Edit Oh, and it's not just the color mismatch, the X-Fi Panel looks like crap in a black TJ-09 as well.
