I was wondering which cases have 120mm fans for intake? I was looking at newegg and there arent many to choose from. I believe the Antec Sonata has that, but I wanted to compare.

I am really looking for a case (hopefully under $100) that has a 120mm intake and a 120mm exhaust (if more fans ie. 80mm top or side .. even that much more better). Can anybody help me out. Thanks!

The Antec Lan boy case has 120mm intake and exhaust fans. I don't really care for the look of the case though.

Check out the SLK3700-BQE. It's a lot like the Sonata, but has better airflow because of how the 120mm intake fan is mounted and the additional front vents. The looks aren't quite as flashy, but it still looks sharp. It's a couple bucks cheaper too.

BTW, if you decide to get the Sonata, order it from Amazon. $99 with free shipping :)

I guess I'll "3rd" the SLK3700BQE. I just finished building an Intel rig in it and I'm very impressed. Great layout, great air flow, and quiet with 2 x 120mm fans. It only comes with 1 fan, so if you are looking for more cooling you'll have to get an extra fan. The 120mm fan in the back is 25mm thick, so I would suggest mounting that one in front and using whatever 120mm fan you want for the exhaust. I'm pretty sure anything thicker than 25mm won't fit in front.

Sonata (although it's behind the hard drive cage so really it's a middle of the case fan)
SLk3700AMD and BQE
Super LANBOY
P160

That's all we have right now.

AFAIC, the Antec SLK3700AMB/Compucase 6A19 series (really both the same inside) is one of the best case designs ever. Several other companies use the same chassis as a basis. Read more about it at coolcases.com . You can get the 6A19 with an excellent 300W HEC PSU for just $10 more than directron's no psu price at mwave.com .
. The cases with the hard drives mounted sideways like the BQE or Sonata work better with SATA or SCSI drives as they are hard to use with the standard short (IEEE spec, 18") flat IDE/PATA cables if you have more than one or two drives to connect optimally. Or you could try the longer flat and/or round PATA cables out there.
. Something like the LAN Boy is also good if you don't need as much drive expansion room. Variants on the same case are also sold by ChenMing et al.
. The Black Knight is a nice case too, but is pretty chintzy inside relative to the above - more image than substance... Most of those available are mentioned in earlier posts.

I've got the 6A19 in beige. Has anyone seen it, or one of the variations anywhere in black?

Thanks. I was thinking of the Black Knight for my next system, but you convinced me otherwise. I'll do the 6A19, but in black.

wow ... to tell you the truth ... this may be the best case configuration I have ever seen ... especially with Panaflo 4 pin fans connected .... for 151.64 shipped to San Antonio, TX ... kinda pricey, a little out of my range, but non the less a great setup.

CCLX6A_BG-M2-FKJP

RECOMMENDED CONFIGURATION: Beige Case, NO PSU; MODs 2; JMC and Panaflo fans installed, 4-pin or 3-pin connectors ...

the enermax 3051 [and higher] cases have a side 80mm fan fitted but fitting [no fan] at the front for an 80 or 120mm fan, top 80mm and rear 2x80mm

Mr. Hanson does a fine job, doesn't he?
. Well, matty. You can do the mods yourself. Total parts cost less than $90. You can even do better because he doesn't use the E-A-R fan mount pins/grommets - better isolation. The base 6A19 with no mods works very well - hard to beat for $50. + sh. You could use a Zalman bracket w/92mm fan (stirring fan) inside the case w/o cutting a new hole, run the front at 12V, the rear at 7V and tha Zalman at 7V. Probably work equally well and ads only about $10. to the stock case cost.
. Looks like I've convinced another one... ;) Enjoy it!

at directron you can get it for 39+ shipping .. so it will probly come out to be about 50 bucks after shipping.

Only problem is .. how would you cut the grills out (nicely ..) anybody have any links to this kinda case modding? I am afraid of trying to do this mod and the screwing it up royaly .. ya know?

On directron there is no PSU included at the base price. They may even strip out the fans to sell separately - wouldn't put it past 'em. It's supposed to come with 300W PSU and two 12cm fans.

Most either use a hole saw/drill or a Dremel with cutting wheels or 9901 carbide bit. I think the 120mm holes are pretty big to find a hole saw for, but they do make precise cutouts. A nibbler tool like Radio Schlock carries is another option. OTOH, you may find it suits you just as it comes. At least for a while...

someone stated their 6a19 came with 1 fan from directron in another post somewhere. But either way I personally do not mind having 1 or zero since I would want panaflo or another brand for a case fan, and something that moves a different amount of air than the ones given.

A little OT, but does anyone know if a 120x38mm fan would fit in the front lower spot on the 6A19?? And if it fits, does a finger/fan guard fit as well?

There's not enough room for a 38 in there. You must use a 25. And a finger guard is really unneccessary as the drive cages are right there.

Here's a pic fer ya.
