Case with real good airflow?

Hey,

I am looking for a case with good airflow and cooling for a 3400+ AMD with a PNY 6800GT. What would you guys recommend? I am thinking something with 120mm fans for both intake and exhaust. I was looking at a couple of models including ( i dont want to spend more than 150 dollars, I already have a powersupply, and I aint getting no silver or white cases..only black 🙂 ):

Tsunami

Other Tsunami

Thermaltake Black Xaser V Damier

I also am concerned with noise levels, so a lot of the cases with 5 80mm fans would bother me unless I used a fanbus or something like it. I have no problem installing a fanbus as long as it can fit into a 150 dollar budget.

i dont see the difference between the two Tsunami's

anyway, i would go with it since it is 120mm intake/exhaust AND it will be quiter than 5 x 80 mm

i like those x alien antec clones. think some even have fan bus built in.

not as pretty as those though. i guess just give up a little cooling. adequate is adequate. if you want to use low rpm 120mm, then just get that zalman resorator to cool your cpu🙂

200 dollars for a water cooling tower thing.. hmmmmmmm...... i think would go the koolance route if i thought of watercooling! 🙂...

actually maybe i should go the koolance route.

in terms of airflow, they all look about the same... IMO, the airflow runs just about the same in every case over $40 and under $100. generally speaking, you're not going to get something really crappy unless you buy a $15 case, and you're not going to get something exceptional unless you shell out the money for a Lian-Li or CoolerMaster (generally speaking, of course... I'm sure there are exceptions out there on both ends of the spectrum).

i so wouldn't. koolance is for water n00bs or those who dont' care about noise. for thecooling those kits do, they make a horrible racket. fans/radiator are right where they shouldn't be, on top of the case directing the noise straight to ur ears... wonderful.

Some of the best cases ever made in terms of aiirflow are still the Antec sx830/840/1030/1040/1080 cases, and their near identical cousins from Chieftec and Chenming. Chenming is the actual manufacturer of all of them.

The huge and functional front intake grilles allow for easy, low restriction airflow, even with the use of only 2 quiet 80mm exhaust fans in the rear. The aluminum Wave cases aren't nearly as good, even though they are pretty...

Ya.. but wouldnt this sucker be loud without a fanbus? Or...shoudl I just go ahead and buy a fanbus?

Not at all...the fans are very very quiet...hell, my PSU is much louder than all 4 of the fans on the case...

I know this may not float your boat, but CMStacker has the potential to have the most airflow through it. With 2 or more 5.25 to 3.25" HDD bay attachments containing 120mm fans...

I hope you are aware that aluminum cases resonate and vibrate all kinds of sound. I had my eyes on those tsunami cases as well, but I decided against it. The side panel is only 0.8mm thick which would be susceptible to sound waves.

I ended up going with Antec 3700BQE with Seasonic Tornado 400W PS. Not as pretty as the tsunami, but it has superior air flow and it is really quiet.

For more info, why not stop by here

I may be wrong, but it's my understanding that all aluminum cases are naturally louder than steel ones.

I'd also second the choice of an Antec/Chenming/Chieftec. You can quiet them down a little more by cutting out the stamped metal grilles.

For the coolermaster, what kind of PSU do you have running in there ?

480w Thermaltake Silent PurePower Xaser Edition

What kind of harddrive do you have in there ? DO you get vibrations?

I have a Maxtor 200GB SATA and a Maxtor 120GB IDE both at 7200RPM...I notice no vibrations...

they don't. esp higher end ones which are made of thicker slabs of aluminum.

Do you consider coolermaster and thermaltake higher end?
