I am about to purchase a new computer, and I would like to know what cases will fit a HD 5870 comfortably without modification at a price point between $100 and $200? Anyone know of any cases I will be able to find to accomadate this?

I would like to a have 2.5" cage, so I can easily mount an SSD, as well as all the fans being 120mm or above to avoid the high pitched 80mm fans.

rule of thumb..

unless ur a pro moder like wiretap with sff's, or your as creative as sparky with a cardboardbox... get the largest case u can possibly tollerate.

the case is 1 thing u can most definitely take with you on future builds.

So if u think your gonna be tinkering with computers for a while, it makes sense to get a nice case, because you can recycle it though your builds.

My current MM has been with me since 2007, and its still going strong.

Thanks Aigo. Any suggestions for good large cases? I really know very little about cases. I would prefer it to be quiet, and have easy access features like a removable HDD tray (like my current case), but really I don't know much about any of the cases, and can't seem to find internal space specs on them to see if the video cards will actually fit or not.

$100-$200 is easy. Figure out what kind of form factor you want and then go from there. Box? Tower? Mini?

If you want to get an idea of what people use, I'd recommend looking at EVGA Mods Rig section for their forums.

I might be going from a Full Tower to a CM Storm Sniper, which I've seen fit a 5970.

+1 for this case also. Great airflow and fans are not too loud. Just a matter of if you like the look of it or not.

I also have 2 rad's and complete water cooling system installed in it with alot of room left.

I only have a 5850 but if it helps from end of the card to the hard drive bay there is 4" of clearance left :)

Another case that looks pretty nice is the Cooler Master 690 II

Yeah, the 5870 is only a bit longer than the 5850, and my card has plenty of clearance.

there's a list of approved cases for crossfire.
http://game.amd.com/us-en/crossfire_certified.aspx?cat=5

i have the ThermaTake Element S. it's nice enough: good cooling(120,140,230mm fans), tray cutouts for wiring, removable HD cage, and 2.5 drive mounts. cable routing is a little tough as there isnt much room behind the MB tray if you have larger sleeved cables(flat ones from modular psu are ok).

if i was going to get a new case today, i would probably go for the Coolermaster 690 ii advanced.

That list is nowhere near comprehensive. I would say the majority of full tower cases, and some mid-tower cases can fit these cards.

That Cooler Master 690 II looks like it fits the bit. although neither appears to have a 2.5" tray (I guess no-one installs a floppy drive any more, although I have a dozen of them sitting in a box, and still throw one in on new builds so I can flash BIOS easier, and other such things.)

The HAF looks like it might be a better case, but it looks a little ugly to me. I might get it anyway, since functionally it looks great, but I will have to look at that thing for years - so probably not.

I'll take a look at the other suggestions as well, and try to figure it out. I appreciate the help everyone!

The HAF 922 is either you like the look or you don't.

I can live with....I picked mine up on the Amazon Black Friday deal $59.99 shipped tho :)

You mean 3.5" don't you? Standard floppy size which either will do.

You are right. I was thinking the difference between 5.25" and 3.5".
