Hey everyone,

Im looking to updating my PC I built about 2-3 years ago and I would like your input on a new case.

Im currently using a CM Cosmos S (fancy carry handles) and usually once a month I pack it up and haul it to a friend's house for some LAN. I quickly realized that this PC is HEAVY and thank god for the handles because it is a pain to move around with them.

So what Im looking for is a desktop case that is relatively light and easy to transport for LAN parties. Ive tried searching but I really cant find much, any ideas?

Are you prepared to do an upgrade or just swapping cases? Understand that the case is only part of the weight. The power supply is a good part of the weight too, as well as any hard drives (if you have a bunch).

I am planning an upgrade, my current PC is running an E8400 with 4 gigs of ram with a GTX260 core 216 and with BF3 coming I may want to drop cash on an i5 2500k and a new card

The old PC would end up as a media center for the living room for the misses to browse the web and such

For safety, I'd recommend a PC without a discrete graphics card. Or maybe it's just me because I'm always afraid they might fall out and drop in the case on the motherboard while I carry the PC around.

Second the Lian Li PC-TU200. The graphics card pillar will keep it nice and steady during travel. Much better handle than the Shuttles I've seen.

OP, have you looked at the CoolerMaster Storm Scout?

I'm also in the same situation for my case need, but have yet to narrow one down.

oh come now i'm hardly the most athletic guy ever but even i can carry around a 32 lb (case only) P183 to gaming. it's not that hard.

frankly the monitor, mouse, keyboard, cables, headphones, etc., are a bigger pain in the rear to deal with than the computer. i carry those in a clothes basket. 2 trips to the car takes less time than packing and unpacking all that junk.

so... my recommendation is dump using a desktop for on the road gaming and get a nice notebook. but wait until BF3 comes out.

if you're stuck on the desktop pc archetype an aluminum micro atx tower like the lian li pc-a04 or the silverstone SG08 is going to save you 20 lbs on the case and a lot of the bulk but still allow a lot of leeway in terms of components.

I've got the CM Storm Scout and like the portability of it. I do wish it was a little taller for a little extra interior room but it's not too bad.

Downsizing to Mini-ITX forces you to choose parts that are cheaper and smaller. It's a good way to confine yourself to a budget since the electronics are physically smaller.

I would urge you to look at Lian LI, Fractal Design, and Silverstone for do-it-yourself cases. You can certainly pick a Shuttle barebones package as well, but keep in mind that their cases are larger and more expensive than the other vendors.

It's true although sometimes smaller parts still cost a lot :X

Apologies for TCing, but I was curious if I was missing something as I thought the shuttle seemed nice as it already has the mother board installed so still seemed very competitive compared to case only. Am I mistaken?
