Hey folks,

Building a new system here that's going to be pretty packed.

680i Mobo + 2 SLI (if not now, later) 8800GTX's (which I know are really long cards) and maybe a physics card or something down the line. In addition, I plan to have two DVD/CD drives (one writable), two internal hard drives, and a floppy..,probably fill up the RAM slots too. I also may go with the Enermax Galaxy 1000W PSU, but I think those are pretty standard sized...

Top considerations:
1.) Space - gotta be roomy enough to work in and hold everything of course. But I don't want to go so massive it's not movable. lol
2.) Cooling - I definitely want ample (preferably stock) cooling and again enough space for proper airflow. I'm not going to overclock, but this is still going to be a hot-running system (quad-core processor as well).
3.) Noise - not nearly as important as the first two, but I'd like something that'll keep things down to a respectable level.
4.) Aesthetics - I like a simple, silver case best, but black might also work. I also like drive bays to be accessible at all times.

Any suggestions would be helpful. My current favorite (but I don't yet know if it would work) is the Lian Li V1200S (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811112065) to give you an idea of the kind of case I'm looking for.

Is there something inherently wrong with a backwards design? I didn't really care either way - just liked the look of that case and know Lian Li has a pretty good reputation! =oP

So I'm very open to others. In fact, my current case is a CoolerMaster and has served me well. The TJ09 also looks really nice! I'll investigate those further (don't have time right now as I'm on my way out) - also of course would love to hear other suggestions of cases to consider!

Thanks!

Lian Li cases make me sick... and I'm not kidding. I gag every time I think about their bass-ackwards cases -- their stupid aluminum office furniture -- everything they make! It's like smelling a bad fart in a crowded bus...

I dunno, maybe it's just me... but I hope China turns Lian Li execs into fertilizer when they take over!

Um...

What was the question? :D

What is your BUDGET??? no one cared to ask this question.

If Budget isnt the concern, a machine design of that class should only be in a Mid/Full tower.

1. TJ-09 <--- my first pick. I think it even pwns the hell out of a Lian Li since its construction quality is listed in league with my old TJ-07.

Believe me when i say this, silverstone TJ-07 >>> ANY LL case. straight up.

2. P180 or 185 if it ever comes out. Or the P190. I say this because u have 2 fans sitting right on top and behind the cpu HSF. So if your Air cooling, this would be your best method in cooling quietly, yet very efficiently.

3. The LL V2000 is a really really nice case. You should concider it if its in your price range. However, it wont live up to a TJ-09

Thanks all.

As far as budget, I'm not skimping on anything in the system as I want it to last a nice long time, so quality is most important.

Gotta say, looking at the options so far, I'm kinda falling in love with the TJ-09...looks roomy enough, seems like it'd be easy to work in, quiet, and if I max out the fan slots with quiet fans I'd have lots and lots of airflow to keep everything cool. I'm thinking with the additional fans in the case (I don't want to go watercooling), I can keep everything stock and keep pretty decent temperatures in fact. The only thing that might have been nice on the Lian Li is the wheels, but I can certainly live without those.

But all the others suggested look nice too. The Thermaltake designs just aren't me, but they look like awesome cases, and I had always thought Lian Li had a really good reputation. I've always liked CoolerMasters, but I honestly am liking the SilverStone design a little better this time around...

wheel addon mods are cheap.

performance-pcs.com for parts. All you need to do is just install them. Im not sure if the TJ-09 comes with it, my TJ-07 did however.

The iStar Nitro 10000 series should do you and the door folds back against the side of the case so it won't be in the way (but you might need a dolly to bring it in the house... ;) . I also like the Tt Eureka but it has a HUGE effing door. I also like the Temjin 5 (SST-TJ05) - it has a door that doesn't fold back all the way but it is removeable... ;) And one of my recent discoveries is the XClio Windtunnel - it's serious hardware. All function, not much flash. 10 of 10 give it 5 stars on Newegg. So far Newegg/ChiefValue is the only one selling them.

I just built a new rig with the TJ-09 and it's an outstanding case. Lots of room for everything, including two 8800 GTXs, and the fit and finish is really in a class of it's own (much better than the half-plastic Cooler Masters or Thermaltakes, and better than Lian Li's in my opinion.)

Airflow is also excellent. I have a E6600 and a Tuniq Tower, and while not yet overclocked, my Processor idles around 20C! (A lage part of that is the Tower, but the case plays an important role.)

Mark.

the TJ-09 looks great and the side vent is in a great spot for graphics card cooling. If the graphics cards are 2-slot cards (which is good for stock cooling), you could have the side vent blow in directly on the GFX cards and have the front fan blow in. Then the two GFX cards would blow out along with the PSU blowing out. Good cooling on the GFX cards and equalized airflow. Bingo.

I like the Rosewill R604-P ATX Mid Tower Case but it ain't quite as pretty or roomy.

The Silverstone TJ-09 is the Jessica Alba of computer cases! That being said, it has some real flaws. The chief knocks on the TJ-09 are that it's a real bear for cable management and that there can be problems with airflow. The Hard Forum TJ-09 thread would be a very helpful place to start in researching the TJ-09.

If you are interested in other possibilities, you can also take a look at this thread listing cases in which an 8800GTX will fit.

OMG!

Prepare to be flamed!!! :)

I CALL UBER SHINS on this statement. Idle on 20C my butt. Unless your on STOCK voltage with STOCK overclock. and your ROOM is near freezing. This isnt possible.

My waterkit idles my oc'd E6600 at 27C. And trust me my water kit will PWN the tower any day of the week with even half my fans disabled. <im not happy about this btw, i should be idling lower> GAH.....

Anyhow op, I still push you getting the TJ-09 if you can afford it. And im guessing you are because you seriously picked out some expensive parts.

I suggest a thermaltake armor. It is the one i got and it is simply amazing in terms of everything (but weight)
