"Desktop" as in horizontal, or just for sitting on your desk (cube or mini tower)?

I think you need to define your question a little better for us. Do you want any matx case or are you looking for something in the SFF style? Also are you wanting to overclock? If so, that will also determine what kind of answers you will get since not all cases do this well. If you want something small, cube-like, and sits on your desk, and gives you the best possibility of high overclocks and best cooling for your mobo, then I would also suggest what Massive Overkill suggested. LanGear's DaBox. The only thing better than it is the Qmicra v2.

i would not get a DaBox until they manage to get all the bugs worked out with the first batch

I'm not planning to overclock. I want something cube-like and not a mini-tower. Da Box has too many issues w/ it right now and I don't feel like waiting for them to get everything fixed. Lan Gear is still a new company and I'm sure they'll do better but it'll take time. I was browsing through Newegg and saw this Lian Li mATX case, what do you think?

Its a very popular SFF case. I've never used it myself but plenty of people have and like it. Its considered a good SFF case amongst the enthusiasts.

If you want something BIG (for a SFF; still smaller than a normal midtower or fulltower) look into the NZXT Rogue. The normal price is around $130-160 or so, but you can usually find a deal bringing it down to $70-90ish.

It will fit a full ATX PSU, 120mm tower CPU heatsink, up to five hard drives, two optical drives, and up to five fans 120mm (three included). It's much larger and heavier than other SFF cases, but it's also quite strong and comes with a handy shoulder carrying strap. I absolutely love mine, but it's not for people looking to save as much space as possible.

About half way down this page, there's a picture of a guy holding the Rogue: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1313920. Someone else had a few pictures of a TRUE inside their Rogue at one point, but the pics have disappeared since. Finally, while it's no where near as long as some of the more recent graphics cards, I know that I've mounted an 8800GTX inside my Rogue without any problems.

i like the X/Q Pack model that has the side windows.

also the X-Dreamer

although you may need to replace the power supply with an ATX/EPS 12 power supply.

because it (the XQ Pack) is compact you have to be concerned about the power supply cables bumping into the DVD drive. e.g. 650 Watt Seasonic - it bumps. 430 Watt Seasonic - doesn't bump, cables come out of the PS case in a different place.

you can fit 4 x 3 1/2" hard drives and one 5 1/4" drive. plus it has 6 different color options on the paint. they all got the blue lights.

lol looks like the size of a microwave

What made you move away from the Microfly case?

Mine fell off from the top of my luggage while I was scurrying around in 30 degree weather and dented the hell out of it. Luckily my hardware wasn't damaged. The Lan Gear has thicker aluminum. The fact that you can put just about any high-end heat sink without modification was also a plus. I like the outside brushed finish as well............more Lian-Li like, except Lian Li, like Antec and NZXT like to abuse the term SFF.

The only drawback to the Lan Gear is that you're limited to hard drive configuration and that they aren't as accessible as the Micro Fly. Well it's expensive as well.

The thing about the larger cube SFF cases is that unless you plan to tote them around they are not that bad in size. I have a Qmicra V1 and considering its main place is at the desktop it is smaller than bigger AXT cases and has a smaller footprint that takes up less space. So if you want the case on top of your desk instead of down on the ground SFF cases are perfect for this. I don't tote my Qmicra around. I have a SG03 for that duty. I find toting the SG03 is easier than my Qmicra. I will say though that ideally you should look for cases that allow the mobo to lay horizontally inside the case rather than vertically. Less chance of things coming loose or breaking during transport.
