Case + PSU + motherboard recommendation?

The PC1066 RDRAM in my Dell 8250 is tested faulty (memtest) now. Instead of dragging myself deeper into the RDRAM thing, I decide to replace the case and the motherboard to use cheaper DDR memory. Anyone have suggestions for a good case and motherboard for the P4 2.4gHz CPU in Dell 8250? Is $100-$150 a reasonable price range? Nothing fancy needed, 4x or 8x AGP is good enough.

Thanks in advance

Thanks, I will get a new PSU. I only have a Nvidia 5200 ultra so nothing draws too much power.

That being said, because some dells use proprietary motherboards and PSU's, so if you tried to use a standard atx PSU with a dell mobo, or a dell PSU with a standard motherboard, something would likely get fried..

I think that's why she's going to get a new case, powersupply, and motherboard now.

If you need to get case and powersupply, I really like the antec combos.

Something like this maybe?
antec case with 350watt ps

Do I need to add another fan? or the one on the case will provide sufficient cooling?

It would be nice to get another 120mm fan to put in front and blow over your hard drive to keep it cool. I think heat is a hard drive's worst enemy so it would be a good idea.

EDIT: there's also a black case with almost the same specs too if the grey/bronze color isn't doing it for you. ($60)

Is the PSU in the Antec rated at just 16A? To upgrade again, it would have to be replaced.

If you like the antec idea but want a better combo, the Sonata has gotten great reviews. It's more than you'd want to spend though if you're trying to get a motherboard/case/powersupply going for under $150.

EDIT: from newegg's site:
"It comes with the NEW Antec 380W PSU, with 24A on the +12V rail instead of the picture's 18A."

I second the Sonata. The PSU is very solid and will allow you to upgrade your CPU and VC in the future without getting a new PSU. I don't know much about Intel equipment, but you should be able to get a good MB for under $70. And Newegg frequently offers the Sonata for $99w/free shipping. Just check the site often as the price seems to vary alot on that particular item.

the 8250 has a standard psu and connector (i checked into this, I have the same setup, the tech docs on dells site spell it out), I dont' think you need anything but a new mobo.
The big question I have, is the OS- can one reactivate the dell-bios tied winxp when you install a new mobo?

EDIT, googled the answer:
link
new mobo (non-dell)= new pc, new license required. sux.

I looks like an 8300 mobo would slip right in, allowing an easy upgrade path. They're going for about 70$ on ebay.
