Case painting

OK, I need help with customizing my computer case. I already have it painted with the "backround" color, and I want to get a sort of complex pattern over the base color, using spray paint. I have been using the car-body shop style touch up paint, so it polishes up good and is hard to chip.

How would I go about this? Somehow get a large print out of the pattern, cut out the pattern and make a stencil? If so, how? I would need plastic, or something that wouldn't seep/soak up the paint and go through, but if I use plastic, the paint might dissolve it.

So, give me ideas! 🙂

I didn't post this in Cases or GH, 'cause it's not about the technical aspect, but rather a Off-Topic aspect of cases. 🙂 😉

Use what body shops use, masking tape and news paper!

Get the pattern down on the case in pencil. Mask off the pattern with masking tape then cover what ever else you don't want to get paint on with more tape and newspaper.

Works like a charm.

Edit = Just make sure the first coat has had 48 hours to dry/harden.

A friend did something similar. He used a wodden stencils. He first applied the first color, then used the stencils to paint the second one on. (it was an alien head, you know, the one like on alienware stuff) Then he sprayed the whole thing with a clear coat acrlic stuff. Worked out pretty cool.

Well...

That won't work. It'll take me weeks to do it so it is right, 'cause the damn pattern is so intricate that it just won't work.

Now, Tsaico's idea seems just right. I could get a sheet of balsa wood and cut out the pattern with a paper pattern over it, using a X-Acto.

Kickass.
