I'm planning on adding pcmods.com's clear rectangle window to my setup and i was wondering, what kind of dremel do i need? i've seen numerous different types. The cheapest one is the corded multipro with one speed setting (like 30,000 rpm i think). Do i need one wit ha variable speed setting? the cordless one's have like two speed settings, but how long do those cordless batteries last? anyone have some advice on these things? I also plan on getting their neon light kit so i'm gonna need a dremel to drill out that hole for the switch on the front. Can anyone help me out here on what kind of Dremel I should get?

how long's the battery life on one of those anyways? and how long do they usually take to charge? i guess i could just use it till the battery dies and then just finish it after its done recharging. i'm really anxious to get this looking good. Did you use it for a case window adn a neon light switch?

Don't get a cordless if you plan on alot of cutting of metal. The battery will drain VERY quickly from everything I've heard. I have the single speed model, and it works ok for cutting metal. However, i think that you'd be better off making the long cuts with a jigsaw, and using the dremel for the corners and the fine tuning work.

i've had 3, the cordless was worthless IMO, had no power and drained too quickly... the multi speed one is the best...

Yes.. Don't get the cordless if you are going to be cutting a lot of metal. The cordless is nice for light work, but it doesn't have that much torque for the heavier stuff like cutting metal on the case.

I would definitely get the variable speed dremel (395 tool). It's much handier. There is no need for the Pro model though (398 tool).

If you are near a Home Depot, they sell a killer package for $80. It's a HD exclusive that offers a very nice accessory package. I think it's the 3964 kit. It's basically the 3956 Superkit with a multipurpose cutting tool that retails for about $17 on its own. You get a lot of great accessories like the flex tool and multipurpose cutting tool. You also get a nice assortment of accessories to get you started.

It's what I would recommend.

He said without accessories. The accessories are what's expensive. I would highly consider one of the kits. If you have any interest in the flex tool, this will cost you almost as much as the tool itself separately.

Also.. I would suggest looking on Gaybay for cheap accessories if you want to buy them separately. I wouldn't waste your time buying the tool on Gaybay because I suspect that there are some counterfeits going around. The accessories are a pretty safe bet though.

The Dewalt tool is probably nice and so is the B&D from what I hear. What sort of accessories can you get for it and are they really expensive. The Dremel is a pretty tried and true product and you can find stuff pretty much anywhere for it. What if Dewalt decides to stop making the tool next year for whatever reason? You'd basically be stuck with a that you could no longer get accessories for. Just something to think about.

just came back from WalMart... the one that's $35 is only a single speed (30,000 rpm) one. Damn guess i'm gonna have to bite the bullet and get the 60 dollar package with the multi speed package. I can't find any hardware or online sites that sells just the 395 package. Anyone know where i can get it? i don't need all the attachments and such. Just the basic 395 package and then i'll just buy a few reinforced cutoff wheels separately.

Do you have a Home Depot in your area? They have special Superkit that has about the best and most useful package with the 395 variable speed tool. The package is the 3964. Similar to the 3956, but you get the multipurpose cutting tool instead of a few odds and ends.

HD has the best prices that I saw for a genuine Dremel kit. I almost made the mistake of ordering at Amazon.com until I realized that these discount hardware stores have better deals on the Dremel stuff. Particularly Home Depot and Menards. My local ACE had the flex tool attachment for a whopping $45. Ouch!

You have to watch Widget. They are one of the companies that deals on Gbay. From what I hear, they are selling clone accessory kits that aren't even Dremel. That's just what I heard, so take it with a grain of salt. I would just buy accessories through places like Gbay and buy the tool at a regular store. I talked to Dremel and they will only warrantee products sold by regular stores anyway.
