Case Mod Question

Hi all. A friend wants me to build a system for her daughter as a b-day gift and would like me to mod it a little with paint and one of those cut out fan guards in the front. She also asked if there is a way to put a cut out picture on the side of the case. Could this be done with like a clear coat paint to protect it and hold it in place? Has anyone done this? Thanks.
