Case mod for additional fans on side panel

The full tower sever case I bought for a file server doesn't come with side panel fans, and I think the system is running a little warm. I want to mod it to that I can put a 92mm case fan to blow cool air in. Is this very hard to do? Are there guides or tutorials on how to do this? Can anyone who can personally done this give me some pointers? Thanks!

yea you can put them in it will be fine. i put 2 120mm fans in the side of my midtower. easiest way to do it is to get a hole saw that is teh same size adn he fran hole and just cut the holes where you want them. thats whati did and what a lot of people do. you can also use a dremel to cut the holes. either way its not that hard

I used a jigsaw to cut a 92mm hole and a 60 mm hole in the side of my case. Its really easy, just cut the hole and file it until its smooth and round. A hole saw is the easiest and quickest if you have one. If you use a dremel or jigsaw make sure to cut the hole a little smaller than the fan size and then sand it to size. You should also get some molding to cover hole edges. Makes the case look much cleaner and covers up any imperfections in the cut.

This tutorial is one of the ones that helped me with my modding. 😀

j/k

But seriously, as already mentioned, dremel tool or hole saw works well. After that it's just a matter or re-routing the power leads to reach your fans. If you want to read up on some guides/tutorials, there are some on that site above that should help. Here's a couple more Links: Link 1, Link 2. Here's a huge Gallery of modded cases, from mild to insane.

anyways, I am not looking to do a serious mod, just to add a case fan so to cool my system. How do these tools cost?

The Dremel tool kits range from $60-$100 depending on which kit you get, comes with accesories and bits. Black & Decker makes a similar tool/accesories kit for about $40. It's not a bad investment considering that you might/will find other uses for it. If you go the hole saw route, 3" = $14, 3 1/2" = $15, and you will need a drill and an arbor. Another way to go is with a nibbling tool, about $10.

I do have a drill, so all I need is hole saw? What is an arbor?
