Case Lighting

Sure, put a bunch of LED's or even a regular lamp. You can do anything you want but remember neon gives out almost ZERO heat and lasts a really long time.

If you make the neon light yourself, it's cheaper than buying one from pcmods. You just need to know how to solder things and such. I made mine, I'll snap some pitures and post them if you'd like to see it.

Go to Murray's/Pep Boys/AutoZone etc.. for 2.50 get yourself a 12 volt interior light or trailer light. I just replaced a mini-strobe with one of those.. and it works great! (mini strobe was getting on my nerves)

It's fairly easy, you just need to buy a neon tube (which costs $5) and a 12vdc to 500vdc converter which costs somewhere around $10. A few other cheap things and then just put it together. I got my stuff from All Electronics

I'll see if I can borrow my friends digital camera and snap some pistures and show you the specific parts and such.

(EDIT: I assume the web site has the stuff, but Allcorp actually has 1 or 2 real world stores and since one is really close to my house I just get my stuff there, not online)

I admit it is very cool, but there are some disadvantages. The biggest one i can think of is usually the one you make is a bit bulkier than one you can buy from pcmods. I get some pics asap. In the meantime, here are some old pictures of what it looks like in my case. Ignore any construction of the light though since I've done a lot too it and made a housing for it and everything.

hmm.. ya, I say the one thing that PCmod is worth getting is the Window kit. I have that Installed in my SX1030.. OMG!! This is the best $30 I've spend! (NOTE: Those of you looking to Mod the SX1030, you need something more heavy duty than a regular dremel)

But ya, since I got the window done already, I want to get myself some Blue Neon (Blue because that's my "color scheme&quot😉. And those price on PCMod are unbelieveable, $40 for a damn tube! Heck no!

I sure hope I can build this, I mean, doesn't neon tubes run on 12V anyway? so you can just power it fromt he powersupply?

yoah atomic..can you take a pic of your case w/ the window in the sx1030? I wanted to do the mod but the latch is in the way. I want to see what it looks like please

Hey, I'm doing a neon light mod to my case right now (literally) and was wondering if one of you guys could help me with something...I'm going to have the light turned on/off using an illuminated rocker switch. Well, the switch works except it doesn't light up like it should. How should I be wiring it?

atomic.. i am buyin the sx1030 very soon and i am planning to get that same window kit.. wut did u use that was heavier duty than dremel?

1. Who wouldn't mind the heat. Putting anything besides a neon wouldn't be too bright.
2. You got the rocker automotive switch from RS I see. That sucker is huge. I bet it's not lighting up since it's not getting enough juice?
3. PC Mod's prices are not so bad. Caseetc is cool and I've spent alot of money with them but that Cole guy is always an ass when answer emails. If you read their shipping policy, they seem very anal about order status. They tell you repeatedly to login to check your status but logging in will only let you change your billing address and enter a CC number. What kind of BS is that? Very cocky people there, but what choice do you have right?
4. Buying a 15 inch neon will cost you less than a 10 inch.
