If you install your case leads onto the motherboard backwards, will the computer still turn on (power, hdd light, etc)? I can't tell which way is the right polarity/direction on the leads from my case.

The only problem I've ever run into is maybe the power light, hdd lights don't come on, but the PC will still power up and run fine. If this is the case just shut down and switch them.

Well, the poweron lead isn't polarised so whatever way it goes should be fine. The leds require a certain direction though.

What I do sometimes is orient the manual the same way as the motherboard and match up the connectors - usually when you get one correct orient the others the same (+ -)

A quick tip for the LED's. Most cases use a common color for the negative side of the LED. Check the wires going to the LEDs, if you see a common color (white or yellow) then thats the negative.

The switches can be connected either way, but the leds have to be connected the "right" way. No two cases are the same =(

Why has that never become a documented standard? Motherboard manuals expect you to know which color wire is negative, positive, and ground, but cases never come with a manual or even a sticker saying those. All case LED connectors come with a label on the connector itself (except sometimes the extra LED that you might have for whatever use you want, but the HDD, Power, Reset, etc. all do), so why doesn't the motherboard manual just say to orient it with the label facing inward to the row of pins or towards a certain side of the motherboard, and of course the cases always have the labels on in the same polarity.
