Case front-panel switch problem

This is my first home-built machine, and I'm having a bit of a problem with the front panel power/reset buttons -

I'm using an aluminum case, can't recall the brand (Flower-something, I don't have the box in front of me), but you can see it at www.colorcases.com as the "Alien X" case. The motherboard is a Gigabyte 7VRXP. The mobo has two parallel rows of pin connectors, six each row I think. The case has each switch & LED on separately labeled jumper-like connectors.

When I try to connect the connector wires according to the lables on them, the front panel buttons do not work and I cannot power on the machine. Moving the connectors around a bit using the motherboard documentation schematic will allow me to get it running, but the reset button acts as the power-on, the power button acts as the reset, and if I shut down the machine in Windows it will power right back up again. Switching the button connectors results in a non-functional front panel.

The connectors for the front panel switches/LEDs are labeled as to what they are supposed to be. Could they be wrong?? Could the motherboard connector layout be atypical on this model? The soft-power per the motherboard docs has 3 pins, though the "power switch" connector on the case only has two pins, right next to each other on a two-pin connector. The power LED, on the otherhand, has two leads on a 3-pin connector (only the outer ones used, center is blank), though it appears per the motherboard docs that the power LED should have two pins right next to each other. Could they have screwed this up at the (case) factory?

Any help appreciated. Sorry if it's confusing, but it's hard to describe.

wow, a lot of questions...

first of all, just unplug every connector and work on the power switch before you start anything else. after that works, you can start adding more. the power and reset buttons can go either way (backwards doesnt matter) because they are just opening/closing a circuit. however, if the led's are plugged in backwards they will not work.

the power led is supposed to be like that, with the blank gap between the 2 wires

Thanks for the suggestions.

I re-did the connectors, and I seem to have got everything working the way it should (buttons & LEDs). Seems the reset button and power button have their connector labels revered (manufacturing error).

There is one exception to everything working, though. When I have Windows shut down the machine, it goes thru the shutdown procedure, powers off then powers instantly right back up. Think this is a motherboard issue or a software issue?

Thanks!
