did you say quiet? I would recommend Nexus without any doubts. Panaflos are not as quiet as Nexus but might push a bit more air.

Where can you even buy Nexus fans, or Yate Loon fans for that matter? Alot of people here on the forums keep mentioning those two brands, but I have never found an online retailer that carries either of those brands.

For case fans the Pansonic Panaflo's are great...They come in L (low) M (meduim) H yadda yadda yadda...I love em...Work great even 5 volted.

I have never owned a Nexus fan so I cannot comment on them...But I have owned just about every other brand you can think of and the Panaflo's "claimed" CFM versus DBa ratings seem much more believable that other manufacturers.

In my opinion the fan world goes...Papst then Sayno Denki then Panaflo's.

Yate Loon and Nexus seem to be getting alot of recommendations...I just have no experience with them.

One thing for sure you will not regret buying Pansonic Panaflo's that is for sure...Excellent build quality...Easily one of the best fan brands out there.

I have used the Yate Loon D12SL-12 120mm fans and can say they are very quiet.
I haven't used any 80mm models and have always liked Panaflo's for that size.

PCTek is the only place I know of to buy Yate Loons currently.
links:
Yate Loon 8025M-12 Sale price: $2.75, 10/$20.00
Yate Loon D12SM-12 Sale price: $5.50, 10/$45.00

The 120mm is a medium speed fan and looks to be a top choice @ SPCR.
The 80mm doesn't have as many user reviews there and is a mixed bag, some saying it is the best 80mm fan and others saying it is not as good as an L1A Panaflo.

:)

You can get your Nexus fans (which comes with both 3-pin and 4-pin) from www.us.ncix.com . If you really are concerned with quietness then go for Nexus but if your ok with a little baring noise and more air than Nexus than go with Panaflo's. I've also read that Panaflo's made in China are not consistant in quality, a bit noisy compared to the one's made in japan.

Check out the recommendation for fans at www.silentpcreview.com.

Good Luck

You said Papst and Panaflo's are good. What about SilenX? Their supposed to be really quiet (<14dBA), and they seem to have good reviews.

The only Panaflo's that have bearing noise are the 120mm fans, even then it's not much. All of the 80mm and 92mm are dead quite. Also the Panaflo's coming out of China are just as good, it may have been an early production problem....

Bottom line 80-92mm go for Panaflo
120mm Yate loon/Nexus is the best option

The SPCR fan list pretty outdated and far from a complete, it needs revising/updating.

From what I understand the reason that Nexus and papst are quieter than panaflo's is because they are naturally at lower RPM. If you drop Panaflo L1A's to the same RPM I would imagine they would be just as quiet (I know mine are silent except for air flow noise @ 7v). The hydro wave bearing on the Panaflo's is what makes em quiet.
