Hi ,

On my mothers PC is has :-

1 x 120 Input Fan @ the Front Bottom of case.
1 x 120 Output Fan @ the Front Bottom of case.
1 x 80mm Input Fan @ Centre of the Side of Case .

Within 2 days the inside of the PC Case is covered in about 3mm or more of dust ??? . :frown:

I read somewhere before that you can set your fans up to create either Negative or Positive air pressure inside the PC case pressure .

So there's air blowing outwards from all the little holes around the case , so the dust cant get is because of the air being pushed out .

Does anyone know which type of fans and setup ie [120mm / 80mm / 92mm / 200mm would create this so the inside can stay clean .

I have tried ladies stockings over the fans to block the dust but they get clogged up and the dust still gets in .

I have Fan filters for my 120mm & 80mm Fans but the just get clogged up with dust within 2/3 days and the amount of air the fan is bringing in /out reduces to about ¼ or ½ of its supposed to .

The PC is in the Kitchen and theres a lot of Dog Hair and dust around so i understand that some dust will come in , buy at the moment it just Ridiculous .

Any help advice very much appreciated . :D

Thank You

[ I E ] When i repair other peoples PC's like relatives the bought there Systems from Dell / Tine / Gateway etc . Inside there PC is always immaculately Clean ?

You don't like to clean up the dust in the kitchen room daily? My case is sitting on the carpet and did not get much dust cuz I vaccum carpet and clean my room all the times.

You have a severe dust problem.....standard case filters aren't the answer. You need to rig up a good/big intake filter. Many ways to do this....here are some.

I'd also suggest moving the computer to a room that has a stand-alone HEPA air filter unit running 24/7. If the problem is as bad as you say, there is no easy solution. Running positive or negative case pressure won't make a difference at all, not until all the air entering the computer is filtered......filtered well.

The pattern of fans you list doesn't make any sense. Should be one lower front intake and one upper rear exhaust as well as the PSU fan exhaust. Positive pressure works well, but you have to have a stronger intake fan than the total of any exhaust fans. And the front has to be filtered well and block off all superfluous venting so the airflow is strictly controlled by the fans. A fan controller will help to balance the fans for best effect. Then test with a fluffy feather or small piece of toilet paper to see if air is coming out thru any openings that are left.

Get some intake filters... and get some air purifiers for that room, it can't be healthy living in there.

If you want this to be a productive discussion, keep it factual and do not exaggerate!

On the other hand, if you are serious about that figure (3mm in 2 days), you cannot keep that kind of dust out of the case no matter how you set up your fans. I would not worry about the PC! I would worry about your mother's health and would move her out of that house at once!

Thats a lot of dust in just a few days.
I have my case open, no side panel, two large 160mm fans in front for intake air and don't get that much dust in two months.

That cant be right, I have a PC I haven't cleaned for months and it doesnt have near as much dust. If its true, I doubt theres much you could do in that situation. Maye you could try an air filter for her house, to tackle to root of the problem?

Is the case on the floor in a carpeted area? If so you could probably try building/buying a stand to put it on, or moving it on top of the desk.

Keep your PC off the floor. My PC is on top of a plastic milk crate. That has helped keep the dust out for me.

Over 3mm of dust accumulating in 2 days. Talk about exaggerating! You'd have to have it sitting in the middle of a dirt road to get anywhere near that much dust inside it....and that's maybe in a couple of weeks. A 3mm layer of dust would completely clog off the cpu's heatsink fins and bury all the surface mounted IC's and transistors and capacitors on the motherboard to the point you'd only see a layer of dust and no surface features anywhere on the motherboard....not to mention all the PCI slots being buried, too.

This is no exaggeration , Its the most used room in the whole house with about 8/10 people in and out all day every day .

And i dont mean the whole inside of the PC just the bottom of the case and the front fan intake cover .

I also have Hardwood flooring, which is mainly swept about 6-8 times a day and Vacuumed at least Once sometimes twice daily .

The Dog sleeps in this room .

The problem dosent seem to be how clean the room is , as i've seen things like this before on friends PCs who custom build .

The PC seems to be sucking in Far too much air . Someone on another forum suggested Fan setup creating Positive Air pressure .

So that a fan from inside the PC is blowing air out of all the little tiny gaps and crevices that nothing can enter the case .

This is the case Here

It came with a lot of filters but i removed some because the CPU temp went from 36°/38° to about 48°/50° .

Im just going to put a 200mm Fan @ Front bottom and a 200mm Fan @ Top Centre with filters .

Positive pressure is not going to make any difference if your intake fans are not filtered.

If all your intake fans are filtered, and your intake fans move more air than your exhaust fans move, you will have positive pressure. Then, air will only enter through filtered openings. From all the other holes and openings, air will be moving out.
Then, you will get less dust inside.

However, your problem seems to be where the PC is located. Even if you have positive pressure and filtered intake fans, your intake filters will clog up every day in that room!
