Hey guys, I am building my first computer and everything is going fairly well so far. I have a question though, I have an ASUS P5k-e Wifi/ap and a Corsair 520hx power supply and a Coolermaster 690 case. I am installing many fans to keep the case cool (around 5 to 6 total). Is it a good idea to plug them all in to the motherboard since there are enough slots? Or should I plug some in the PSU? Complete specs and fan types are below.

Here are my specs:

Coolermaster 690 case
Q6600 with Coolermaster Hyper TX cooler
Asus P5k-e Wifi/ap
Samsung DVD Burner
Seagate 250gb HD
evga 8800gt
2 yate loon 140mm
1 yate loon 120mm
1 scythe 120mm
2 Coolermaster 120 fans

Use splitters and connect as many as you can to the PS.
Some will need to be connected to the MB for temp/speed control.

So plugging them in to the motherboard is a bad idea? Why is this? (Just trying to figure everything out, the motherboard has 5 fan headers)

Plugging into the motherboard is fine. You just need to make sure that the fans don't draw more power than your MB headers supply, or you'll burn out all of the fan headers on the board, or at worst damage the board.

yup depends if you think the mb fan control is usable.
i just plug my fans into a fan controller so i can fiddle with speed manually.

Plugging the Fans to the Motherboard is a convenient to computer manufactures.

In reality, it is a Bad idea and should be avoided if possible.

Why?

More current through the board more Heat the components, and might decrease and destabilize the voltage to some components too.

Fans create electrical noise, there is capacitors to squelch the noise, but Not everything disappear, and there is No reason to let Noisy signal into the Mobo to begin with.

Wow, Thanks for the answer JackMDS. That is exactly what I was looking for. I ended up plugging in all put the HS fan and one intake fan in to the PSU. I am installing windows right now!
