Have an InWinn Q500 tower and want to add 1 or 2 additional fans. Not sure I fully understand the difference between 3 pin, and 4 pin, fan connectors.

Do the 3 pin fans conect to MB and vary speed based on case temp? If so, do need to use a special fan? Looking at Antec and Panaflow fans.

Thanks for help

4 pin fans usually connect to your power supply so it shares power between your hd and other devices.

3 pin fans goes into your mb and depending on your type of mb, you will have different number of 3-pin connectors available.

there is really no dif between 3pin fans and 4 pin fans, it just depends on wheather u have enough connectors or not to give them power. Also the 3-pin fans connectors on the mb should give u the rpm reading of the fan. thats a good feature to have so that u can detect if a fan has died or not...but these do require special fans.

i think the antec and the panaflo should be ok.
