Case fan

My case fan came with a 3 pin to 4 pin converter and form the converter comes out a white cable with a 3 pin extension( I guess fan control?). Should i connect it throw the 4 pin converter for extra power?

it doesn't make a difference speed wise if you use the converter or plug it into a header on the MB
