Case Fan On / Off Switch Products

Hello Everyone,

Basically I have a very cool running PC that I currently don't even have any case fans running with, but I would like the option of being able to have a case fan installed where I can turn the fan on and off (with a mounted switch on the back of my PC case) when I feel that it is necessary to have it running.

What I am looking for really is just a switch attached to a wire that can be plugged in between the power source and the fan itself where I can cut the power on or off.

I do NOT want any type of fan controller that fits into 3.5 or 5.25 bays or anything like that (I don't have the room for these anyways).

I was wondering if anyone is aware of a product that they could recommend to solve what I am looking to accomplish.

I currently do not have a case fan picked out so I am even open to fan products that maybe has this off feature switch included.
For example I do have an Antec TriCool fan that has a little black box switch that allows the fan to be switched between L M H (low, medium, and high) but unfortunately no O for OFF. Doubt any fans will have this option but who knows.

Thank You To All Who View This and For Any Suggestions Offered

Thank you very much Red Squirrel for digging up that article for me.
Super old article is right, is that a 3.5" floppy drive I see 😱. 😀

I was considering trying to make something myself, but was hoping I would not have to, but this may be something I will try, because I do have most of the parts you have shown to complete this.

In changing my keyword searches, I was also able to find a couple of similar products from retailers I have never really heard of. I also was able to find some internal fan controllers on Amazon that I may be able to come up with a way of drilling a hole and mounting the controls so they are accessible to outside the case.

I will try to do a follow up on what I come up with in case others are interested doing something like this.

Thanks Again

Hey Guys,

Thanks again for all of your responses.

Oddly enough, I have a Zalman Fanmate 2 (it came with a Zalman product that I owned) but unfortunately it does not allow you to turn the fan completely off.

A while back I came across this Sunbeam product recommended by you both and I was excited to find it, this product would be perfect, but unfortunately I don't think this product has the ability to turn the fan completely off either. I love that this one has the switch already mounted in the pci slot, because I do have a slot free, and it would prevent me from having to make any case modifications.

I was also able to find a couple products similar to the directron product recommended. I have been trying to find one similar to this but with a female 4 pin fan connector at one end and a male 4 pin fan connector at the other. (I know I could buy adapters for each end but this wire would start to get quite lengthy)

My plan is to go from....

Motherboard 4 pin fan power port ---- on/off switch ---- 3 pin case fan

I might try to find a fan extension wire and maybe try to splice a small switch to that, if I can't find an actual product to purchase.

As I said in my last post I was also able to find a couple internal controllers that have a knob, but they say they can turn on and off. I would just have to modify my case in order to access the fan knob outside the case.
They to unfortunately don't have a 4 pin fan connector at each end.

What to do, what to do?

Thanks Again
